  1. Re:User Mode Linux? on One-Machine Linux Cluster · · Score: 4, Informative

User Mode Linux is basically a VM. It uses virtual devices for hardware multiplexing. Read the "Alternative technolgoies/Virtual Machines" and "Alternative technologies/Limitations of those technologies" for why this is a different (and better in some instances) solution.

The vunify tool has significance when differentiating between VM's and this.

Most people think water cooling has to be expensive and time consuming as well. Not the case! Check out http://www.koolance.com, pre-configured water-cooled cases for cheap. The noise output level is incredibly low. And in contrast to the Aluminum case thinkgeek offers, it's quite affordable as well.

  3. Maybe the other way around... on pam_ldap/pam_krb5 Authentication Against Active Directory? · · Score: 1

I've pondered doing the same thing on our network. But modifying the schema in ADS seems a bit too daunting a task. Perhaps if you migrated your user accounts to a samba server which functions as a PDC you could have all your users stored in OpenLDAP and have authentication occur through pam_ldap.

I don't see why it wouldn't work, you may have to make some slight modifications to samba, and/or OpenLDAP's schema (_MUCH_ easier than modifying ADS!). Anyway, just a thought. Give me a month or so and I'll have a whitepaper on it...hopefully :)
