Didn't Indianna and his dad become immortal in the last Indianna Jones installment when they both drank from the Holy Grail? Wouldn't this put a little damper on the bad guys trying to kill them wouldn't you say?

I don't think it would cause another big bang if the universe were to become close, because the generally accepted idea is that the big bang happened before space-time and came from a single point. It doesn't seem to me that space-time will be created again, and that the universe will collapse into another single point, it would however be one hell of a bang. As for your other point that the universe would get colder and colder I don't believe so as while the universe is expanding, we are not actually warmed by other stars except out own, AFAIK (IANAAP -I am not an Astro-Physicist) the Earth (and other planets) are in a steady orbit around the sun which is not decaying or accelerating. I would assume (I know I shouldn't but what the hell) that at least most other systems work in this way aswell, so the universe expanding into infinity wouldn't cause us to become a floating ice ball in the middle of nowhere.

BTW, also it's not as if there isn't enough spare matter in the universe to stop new star's being formed, for every star that dies, another is formed.

Offtopic - What ever happened to that theory that there was a giant black hole at the centre of the universe which kept things in place, I haven't heard any more on that subject for a very long time now?

In your model however you would need to have the speed at which the matter was converting other matter into dark matter to be able to say that all mater was already dark matter. The universe is expanding constantly and so therefore for all matter to be dark matter the rate at which normal matter was converted into dark matter would have to exceed the rate of expansion in the universe.

But anyway the parent was a troll, but I just had to post my thoughts.

Yes, this would be true however Telstra's decision (because Telstra make up such a stupidly large amount of the broadband market) no matter what it is will most likely have whatever they say handed over to most other ISP's. As far as cable goes it's either choose to use BPA (BigPond Advance) or Optus@Home. That's it for cable. For ADSL it's slightly different you have a choice of either Telstra or Telstra's network repackaged under another name eg iPrimus. So the only thing you can do is support O@H cable, which since it's only them and Telstra can easily put in a slightly higher monthly rate and charge after that because there's nothing anyone can do, I mean what can you do? Go back to dial-up? As for ADSL 99% if not more of it is now volume based and those that aren't have very strict limits on what you use. And even if your lucky enough to find some little ADSL place where you like the service and they are nice people you are still supporting Telstra as EVERY ADSL telco in Australia uses their network.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
