"Running an NT/W2K server is nearly as different from running office on W9X as Linux is, and knowing how to play minesweeper does not qualify someone to manage an enterprise server, but many times people making these decisions don't understand this.

Indeed, also their are alot of people think that if you get your MCSE that youre actually good.
yeah lets all use OLAP... how do your an adhoc query from a command line again? oh yeah u can only use proprietary microsoft API's and no SQL statements.
wonder why their are all those pesky unscalabe huge relational data warehouses behind OLAP tools.
thats fine.. but if any developer asks to put something else in the DB other than T-SQL especially (if yuo read the entire article) youre going to get a beating.
well even so you can get it for $900. the unlimited processor liscence is now $3000. which makes it even cheaper than MSSQL. The only difference between that version and the enterprise is that it wont run on AIX or OS390( who cares unless you get a billion transactions per sec)
SQL Server doesnt run an 3.1 you moron.
and if it did it was version 4.x. that version makes mySQL look enterprise ready.MSSQL didnt become good till version 7
you may be right about MySQl being that. I like MS SQL. Its the only product they have made that is any good. too bad it only functions on that buggy OS which makes linux look like King.("buggy OSS" project as you like to call it)
BTW as a SQL SERVER dba, I usually reach for my pistol when anyone asks me to use ASP( another buggy MS crap) on it.
another thing i agree java demand will go down and.NET will go up. Theyll need alot of programmers to keep that.NET shit running.
They wont need too many java programmers anymore, that shit actually works and scales!
doubtful. java is cross paltform. which is the only reason anyone uses it and seems to do pretty well..CRAP will never be cross platform with .
and with linux gaining cross-platform will be important
Ive benn to places were a vc++ was a total disaster. it more depends on the skill of the progrsmmers realisitc requirements and good project management.
"faster" tools also does not necesarrily mean stable code either. and that becomes worse
maybe he just want to do more server side stuff eventually. or make a nice little gui interface for a new server type application that for big enterprises are likekly to have a scalable *nix implementation.
yeah its all the p0rn we download. get real
hmm. thats wierd than linux is equal.. microsoft is always on beta quality.. or is it alpha?
beter yet... why stop linux and get it for free!
we are talkig server OS's Shiznit
that would be awesome to see the first piece of software ever to bring a mainframe to its knees
yeah but you suck bill gates's dick. so whats your point?
"like stability, downtime costs, etc. "
.. he didnt use windows
well he got it half right
