So that the technology sounds tastier? Maybe if they can't get geeks drooling over the technical aspects of the technology, they have to associate it in some way with food.

OK, checking out that image, that passport is genuinely smaller than my passport, so I guess you guys have a different sizes...
Still, RFID blocking money belt...:)

The last time I checked a passport was rather a bulky item that would be hard-pressed to fit inside a wallet. It is more likely to be carried in a pocket that is not even close to my wallet (well, personally that is. I would have it in my top jacket pocket, and my wallet in my back pocket).
Actually, if I were going somewhere that required a passport, I would be less likely to take a wallet and carry instead a money belt. Do they have RFID blocking money belts? I'd carry my passport in that!
I do agree about the other points though. Government 'Smart' card's are going to start making the rounds here in the next couple of years. They will probably use RFID, and so I will probably invest in RFID blocking/eliminating technology.
My mind constantly tries to Ctrl-F while reading, or do a file Search for something I lost in the house. Undo is another one of those things that would be awesome IRL.
So, if it is illegal for Credit Card companies to collect payments for bets, then how does this affect the international community? Are they merely imposing this kind of closed-minded gambling scheme on only local uses of Credit Card companies? Or are they instead imposing their narrow view onto the international community for credit card companies that are based in the US?
The reason I ask is, how on earth do they intend to determine if a customer is in the US or not, and does it matter if the person is travelling Internationally or not? This seems like a breach of jurisdiction to me.
If person A were travelling out of the country, and went to a country where they were allowed by law to gamble online. Does that not seem like a breach of jurisdiction? What if, hypothetically, there exists a country where you are required BY LAW to gamble online at least once during your trip? Who would be in the right?
Surely though this means that people could travel overseas, get themselves another credit card, and use it for whatever means when they get back. I'm sure there will even be mail-order credit cards from god knows where before long that will totally circumvent this entire gambling issue.
Indeed this is ultimately true. From an e-Ink reader I would only intend to use it for that; reading. Although I could cope with having something the size of a PDA, now that I have given it some thought I think I would prefer the book-sized reader, as then I wouldn't be looking at minute text on a minature screen. I think I have to commend Sony on their design, having looked through their Reader site. I certainly am looking forward to where this technology will be going.
Regarding the CHM's: Converting CHM's to PDF's is definitely not an ideal solution, because in that process you lose some of the better structuring that CHM has to offer, and the increased search functionality that CHM has natively. But given no other option I would certainly go this way if I had such a reader.
I agree, once they find a way to interface flash 'memory' with the brain, then you may be able to access others memories/experiences without interfering with your current state of mind. I forsee the development of this form of technology within my lifetime.
I just wonder how they would then organise University Examinations, if you can borrow anybodies learning and interface with it directly:). What a dilema that will be.
I wonder if they will end up supporting Windows Help format CHM files. I have a vast library of PDF's and CHM's. I would get this device if I could find any info that it supported CHM:/
I have been wondering when a device like this was actually going to see the light of day. I look forward to the day when I can take my entire library on a device like this... and afford it.
This game was the reason I started programming. I wrote a few IGMs for LoRD and LoRD 2. Not very good mind you.
I still enjoy Seths works, including Dink Smallwood and that awesome entry into GameDev.Net's Four Elements competition (4E3 IIRC). The Tarzan Pissing Game as it came to be known is really fun to play, and you can get it off Seths Site. http://www.rtsoft.com/
I was severely addicted to the Internet, back when I first started University. Prior to that I was addicted to BBS's. I once spent three days awake replying to everything on one of my favourite forums of the time. Thanks to that I got the flu and was bedridden for two weeks.
This is a classic sign of addiction. I have since grown to be a more responsible user of the Internet, but the addiction is still there. I certainly wouldn't call it an addiction akin to drug addiction, but it is a mild addiction that can affect Social behaviour and even be detrimental to your health.
Well, my wife occasionally tries to "hold out" as you say... That's when you act rationally and start hinting that there could be someone else... She goes spare asking who "she" is... then you turn around and say that there is noone and you should both stop playing silly games with each other.
Some of my friends turn to porn in those situations, somewhere I'd loath to be.
Of course, you can also choose to hold out on her, if you are strong willed enough (damn it drives women crazy that you don't mind doing without. It is like they have lost all power or something);)
This is exactly right! I have seen countless people roll through my University Degree passing all the classes with flying colours only to find that what they have learned is a few years old and they really didn't have the will to learn all the new material.
On the other hand I have seen some of the smartest programmers I have ever met fail to be taught a thing by these classes, but these people end up in the high paid jobs without a degree. Why? Because they actually know what they are doing and are actually interested in learning in their own time anything that is going to give them the advantage.
These people succeed because they have the passion, the knowledge and the LOVE of coding. There are far too many students who make their way to Uni expecting to get into the high paid jobs doing a bit of "easy IT stuff". These are the people who are flooding our marketplace and making it hard for programmers by convincing execs that the cheaper and better alternative to insourcing is outsourcing.

Charge it up in a lightning storm. 1.21JW should be enough to keep it powered and give it time-travelling ability.

At least I know I am safe in my job.
