I am only pulling 958 bytes/s from ftp1.sourceforge.net. While this could be attributed to my polack connection, I was wondering if there are any mirrors besides those listed under the Get Slack page on slackware.com (none of these seem to be updated with ISOs).

NVidia cards in general do not match competitors' in terms of 2d acceleration (matrox for example).
I wouldn't put all (if any) of the blame on the X server.
