We are currently installing a 30 node 1 server K12Linux LTSP lab in one of our schools with very good results. So far (hardware acquisition aside) we have invested a week of time, which was mostly spent in setting up the hardware. Our teacher is very happy with the results and the performance of the lab however there are some performance enhancements that we want to try and test.
The thin clients we bought new from a local OEM for $300 each including monitor and the server is a duel proc, PIII 1GHz, 2GB RAM, 2 x 36GB SCSI HDD's with RAID 1.
In the feature we will probably want to have one sever to every 20 computers and a GBIC connection from the LTSP server to the switch.
Very cool stuff. We should be finished working out the bugs with the install in a week or two.
