Similar to the vserver idea is the concept of running another kernel of linux in 'User Mode Linux'. This allows you to run a virtual linux machine within you current install. This allows you to test kernel modules and patches in your vitrual system with out affecting the real system. This way, if your fake system gets rooted, the underlying system is ok.
I aggree. In the Level 3 press release, Buffett said "Liquid resources and strong financial backing are scarce and valuable assets in today's telecommunications world. Level 3 has both". Also note that the ACTUAL amount put in from Buffett is only 100 million with the other 400 million from 2 other investors.
A manufacture sells a "device" touted as a protable storage device of mass quantity (20, 40, 60GB...whatever), then - after the fact - offers a firmware upgrade to the unit that allows playback of certain audio types.
Might this get around the problem? (if you could get manufactures to come onside)
You all seem to have missed this article in Wired in april about the Iraqis "supposedly" hooking a shitload of these bad-boys together to make a cheap-man's supercomputer.
Check it out!
Might also be an iDEN problem

SMS vs. E-mail?

I work for Telus Mobility (formerly Clearnet) in Canada. I have seen that SMS can be sent to Fido (the only major GSM provider here) from our iDEN based phones, but not the other way around. You might need to know the network gateway, and this can be hard to find if the company thinks SMS is usless (as Telus does - as most non-GSM providers in North America do)I dont remember exactally how it is done, but it may be an email that gets parsed by Fido and sent as SMS (not an email) to the phone. I think it might be all in the addressing of the message.
