Chill...:) My intentions were honorable. I was still under the impression at the time of the posting that he was only trying to help out and that any documents obtained from the server were to test what vulnerabilities were present(as was reported in the first article). I somehow missed the part where he was trying to sell the scripts he stole for a profit...

Ahhh.... I somehow missed the point about him trying to make a profit from the re-writing of the scripts. However, isn't that what reverse engineering is all about? It is just easier with PERL because it isn't compiled.
Lets apply this to non-computer terms and see what we have:
The defendant, using a security vulnerability known as a Window, was able to look inside INSERTCOMPANYNAMEHERE and read confidential documents taped on the wall. He then told the company about the problem with looking through a Window and the company bought blinds, thereby fixing the hole. However, for noticing the stupidity of INSERTCOMPANYNAMEHERE, the defendant is being served up with a court hearing for misdemeanor charges of looking inside a building through a window without authorization.
Some companies are just stupid.

He shouldn't have had to plead guilty to ANY offense. He should have been given a reward by the company for finding a problem that could have easily cost them thousands of dollars if exploited. And this wasn't any complex hole either. Any 5 year old with a browser and Frontpage could have hacked it.

The formats themselves may be excellent(take PDF for example) but the commercialization of formats makes the company into just another money hungry corporation.

I, myself, was always one to buy the books I needed(in PRINT) and if I didn't need to own it, I would use that wonderful thing known as a public library.:)

Until everyone decides on a free, open format, we are stuck being forced to either A) Stop Bitching and Convert everything to ASCII, or B) Bitch and make everyone send things IN ASCII text.

Stupid Microsoft. Can't they make something that works right OUT of the box without having to shut down everything that could cause problems automatically?
I don't mind spending the extra time configuring all my Unix boxes, because I know they are powerful enough to do what I want. But for Windows? Please! I wish they would just work right the first time.
What the hell are they trying to do? Kill any small people who have dreams? Can everyone afford commercial grade bandwidth when they are just starting out with their own.com?
Come on, we need to stop being greedy little bitches and start providing quality service that is cheap and cost affective to our goals. Why pay 1 thousand a month for a T1 when a 560K DSL line will suffice.

How can a new up-and-coming
DSL fits the needs perfectly, so why should we be charged massive fees to get the same service?
For example: Commercial DSL - 250$+, residential - 45$.
How do you justify charging THAT MUCH more for commercial service of the same qaulity as residential? Because it is a webserver? Please. That is lame.
I hardly see how you can compare a webserver that serves 20k HTML docs to a kid on a porno rampage downloading 600Meg Video's.
