  1. Also Technocracy, Bureaucracy, Republics, Capitalism (replace PhD with $$$), and basically every other form of government we have tried. Some are better about it than others, but still.

  2. I was recently involved in constructing an addition to an industrial facility. The addition tied it to what used to be a dance hall / community center. The dance hall dated from before the neighborhood was divided by the local interstate freeway cutting N-S through the center of town. It's basically been abandoned since that time as the area on either side of the highway has become industrial. Note that while the highway itself is raised, part of the project was a large drainage ditch (an open concrete culvert 20' wide and deep at this location).

  3. It's easy not to need AC when the summer averages 22C (73F). NY summer average is slightly higher, without the open air to allow cooling breezes. Most of the US has much higher temperatures in the summer. Kansas averages 32C (90F) and usually has a high humidity too.

  4. A lived in a small town in KS for awhile that retrofitted a number of residential intersections as roundabouts. The existing intersections were just large enough to add a circular curb in the center and leave enough room to circle at residential speeds (35 mph) Yes, larger / faster streets need more space for a roundabout. And it becomes more difficult if there are multiple lanes each way. But the (4 times) figure is BS in most situations.

I drive a small SUV, there are some intersections where the sensor doesn't register my vehicle consistently. If I can't activate the sensor for the left turn lane, on an intersection with NO TURN on green, I sit through 2 cycles then turn anyway.

  6. You realize almost 50% of India doesn't even have electricity, right?
