on the one hand I think it is an ethical question if you do like to develop software or not. Anyway, everyone has to decide it for himself. In the case one does not want to support war explicitly, one should put this into the license.
But if one realizes that developed code can only be used to kill civilians or perhaps even worse, a software that does not help in deciding a conflict, i.e. software that might unintentionally heat up the conflict, one must take the responsibility and decide not to do the coding.
A little off-topic, but is there a perspective for something like the old Maniac Mansion adventure? No, not a sequel, just a graphics adventure where you dont have mindboggling visuals but a real possibility to try out what you want, not just one linear way of playing...
Or are there OpenSource developers who are trying to start such a project?
I guess in my country (DE) especially in Eastern Germany, fiber is more spread than copper. Due to this, this sounds to me like a fabulous solution to get more bandwidth. Anyway since Im a student at the University of Paderborn I must say that great stuff is happening here...;)
An ID-Card has a lot of advantages if used in the right way. e.g. in Germany your ID-Card is unique, there's no database representing all ID-Cards. The data of each ID-card is deleted after printing the Card.
Anyway Germany is quite different. We have much more privacy than people in the States on the one hand but this is connected with a very strict organized handling of ids on the other hand.
So if you are pushed to having id-cards also try to get more privacy, if possible or you will get very transparent. And take care of your id-no. etc.
