Not sure what you mean by that, but yes I would agree. Wages generally tend to increase, every year $40k is less and less money. My point was, right NOW a person can live on $40k/year. It's not great money, but survivable and a FAR cry from 'third world wages'
That depends. If you live in a small house in a shitty area in the Midwest, you can get by on 40K. If you live in California, a cardboard box on the street costs 40K! And aren't the rents there about 2K/month? Or am I behind the times?
One thing I've griped about were space battles at warpspeed/hyperspeed. Under human control! Even if FTL were possible, you couldn't have a space battle in warpspeed. Even fully automated computers couldn't operate at those speeds.
I like a balance between the "fiction" and the "science". FTL is the only way to get to other star systems in a reasonable time, but I can do without space battles at Warp speed under human control. I can suspend belief, but I want things to be consistant.
if you want to become a jedi join a martial arts class
But, will the martial arts class teach me how to deflect laser bolts with an energy sword? Or levitate a starship? Or jump out of a moving skyspeeder onto another one?
The most important thing isn't how "crappy" the code is, but whether it works. If BSD, for all its supposed superiority doesn't install on my hardware, it's useless to me, and I'll go with the "crappy" alternative.
Who's stuck home? My GF & I go to the casino. It's probably cheaper than the movies, and it's certainly more fun. And the "inferior" sound of my TV doesn't have to compete with crying children and ringing cellphones. Picture quality is an issue, especially for action movies like Sith or Batman, but even that doesn't compensate for the problems with the theaters. Last but not least, though it will be awhile before I can watch a legal DVD of Sith or Batman, once I do get one, I can watch it any time I want for no extra cost.
That's true, but it's worth waiting those months to avoid the crappy theaters. The only bad thing is hearing the people who did suffer through the theaters yammer about Sith & Batman and trying to avoid spoilers.
The problem is the DEFAULT on XP is to run everything as root. The developers, and often Microsoft itself, saw little reason to change from the 9X style. If Microsoft had done security right when XP came out, there would have been some short term grumbling and accusations that MS was doing it to break 3rd party apps, but it would have settled down and we'd have a reasonably secure Windows now.
Yes, but there ARE exceptions, and over time those "exceptions" will become more and more common, and annoying. Meanwhile, I'll still be able to FF past those 15 minutes of Disney ads.
What is required is a VHS+DVD recorder with easy to use interface to transfer VHS to DVD, that'll be the first step to move consumers away from VHS
Exactly! I have 1,001 old VHS tapes. I'm not rich enough to buy DVDs just to replace them. Assuming that all of them even came out on DVD! For new movies, I wouldn't have a problem with DVDs except for stupid stuff like Region Encoding, or inability to FF.
China can't become DEPENDENT on F/OSS. That's the whole point. F/OSS is not going to improve freedom for the Chinese people. In theory, the ecomonic benefits of not being dependent on a Big Evil Corporation might improve things, but I don't think the Chinese government will loosen its iron grip.

What about Arabic? Everyone knows that the terrorists speak Arabic. How would this analysis work on it?
I had that problem with my printer. XP asked for a driver CD, and then it couldn't find the driver on the CD. I just plugged the same printer into my iBook and it JustWorked (tm).
What's a pgp?

Not that unrecognizable. When the Borg assimilated the Ferengi, we got Microsoft!
OTOH, regular firearms can come in handy. The SG1 team would have been SOL against the Replicators without their "primitive" projectile weapons.

Linux's "crappy code" installs on many PCs. BSD's "non-crappy" code does not. Case closed!
Linux zealots might drive away "normal" people, but BSD zealots are so bad that they drive away Linux geeks. THAT is scary!

WalMart is no more evil than any other corporation. And continuing to sell VHS is a good thing, even if it IS Walmart that's doing it.
I know more people with VCRs than I do with DVDs. Chances are, if I want to share it with a friend, VHS is the only game in town.

Shows how much he knows. I've been using Cro Magnon's ID since he did that.
I posted to slashdot from an Internet Cafe, and nobody stole my password.
I agree. People should be free to worship or not, as they choose. Prohibiting religion is just as wrong as shoving it down someone's throat is.

Most Debian users weren't even alive during the last release!
