Now I know its a stretch thinking that a few measly few dollars is gonna stack
up much against the competition (the usual suspects), but i felt i had to try
anyway, if only as a kind of clumsy salute to the open source community in general,
and slash in particular. ( Guttenberg must be proud! )
I am including an e-mail i sent to one of my home towns popular radio stations,
in the (vain?) expectation that it might get mentioned, and therefore, however
unlikely drive some traffic my way.
I know that even this post could be construed to be just another veiled scheme
at more promotion, maybe it is, but as the subject of the following e-mail explains...

I thought I'd send it in anyway. And let you be the judge;
A "native son", announces the launch today of a new, global, real-time,
community based, "printing press" called GlobalFreePress, where else,
but on
the web, thru. July 19 @ http://GlobalFreePress.com
. ( I am no marketer,
but ain't those the buzzwords, well maybe not the printing press )
AKA: a webzine
Feeling increasingly alarmed at what makes it on the news today, and even
more so by what, is in fact, left out, a new web site is inspired.
Tired of waiting for the industry to change and adapt. Uncommon sense said,
"You know the power of the web is not just a cliché, or at least
it
shouldn't be, and there actually is a whole lot of power to be harnessed out
here, especially for democracy, within this wild, wild, web."
In the spirit of the year 1776, and the city of brotherly love itself, the
site's focus is, "Democracy".
Just as the pubs, of Whitman's day, provided a common ground, for the common
and not so common fork to express themselves, learn, and inspire, the goal
is the same at GFP (GlobalFreePress).
By harnessing the collective wisdom, and talent of net citizens around our
globe, open source software has made "mote", the recent anti trust
suit
against, probably the worlds largest, and most obvious monopoly of our time,
Microsoft.
By leveraging the enormous, diverse, distributed, evolving, and demonstrated
power of the open source community, the GFP hopes to provide a platform
which gives voice to the issues of great importance of our day, and allows
everyone to speak up. We hope to provide a new commons for commonsense
instead of the trash that somehow passes as news on many traditional media
outlets.
By using today's most modern, open source Internet technologies ( Linux,
Apache, PERL, SLASH, etc. ) the GFP allows the user complete control
over the
content published to the site. And is able to customize the flow of
information to meet his or her needs. The site also allows the user to
publish their own thoughts, ideas, and feedback on today's most relevant
issues. The site will allow a conversation to be inspired by one of the
sites informative, issue oriented, articles. The site also allows for the
dynamic importation and exportation of information for many other similar
web sites, also completely controlled by the user.
So, as an alternative to just being talked at, while the powerful play goes
on, everybody may contribute a verse.
"War is too important to be left to the generals," -Clemenceau
try livin in japan - not that it is terrible - it is an experiance i recommend for all us TALL WHITE GUYS.
And I choose to invest them in my new web site, http://GlobalFreePress.com
