    2) Terrorists using alternative unbreakable crypto is NOT an argument against key escrow. Requiring all communication using strong encryption to use key escrow has the flip side of making other forms of encrypted communication illegal. Discovery that a suspect is using illegal/unbreakable encryption would be enough to arrest them and detain them indefinitely for contempt of court if they failed to turn over the keys to their crypto

    Your comparison is invalid, if not a complete fallacy.

    First of all, you don't "buy" a driver's license at the DMV. You are granted one, and (possibly) pay a fee. No, it's not the same as buying. In some states/countries driver's license are free or at a symbolic price (say, $1). You may be forbidden to get a driver's license for medical reason or legal reasons (like prior drunk driving).

    Just because software license and driving licenses are both "licenses" doesn't mean they're the same. You're just playing with words.

    A fertilizer plant blew up in Toulouse last week. Buildings have been destroyed in about half a mile radius, and no glass window in a 10 mile radius is still standing! 300 tons of fertilizer blew up initially, probably even more in the neighbouring buildings, and a rocket solid fuel manufactoring facility got blewn up as well. 30 schools destroyed in the area.

    I wonder how much bigger this was. Weird shit. People thought it was a terrorist attack, but it might just be an accident.

    Don't believe the AC, he's wrong.

    You can write proprietary software for Linux, as long as you don't link and/or incorporate GPL'd code in your program.

    You can link to LGPL'd code (such as Gnome/GTK/glibc) without problem, it's the purpose of those.

    Some software is on Berkeley license, such as X11, and you can do anything you want with that.

    Executing an external GPL program (through "exec") from a proprietary program is permitted. Calling the Linux kernel (which is GPL'd)system calls is not a violation of GPL either.

    Lastly, the output of GPL'd program is not subject to GPL. This includes the output of GCC: you can compile any kind of programs with it.

    By the way, why has Sharon pushed for more settlements in occupied territories, when said settlements are not actually needed, and are infringing on UN decisions?

    And why is Sharon prohibiting Peres from meeting Arrafat? Why is he afraid of diplomacy?

    Well, yeah, that was 30 years ago. And yes, it was bad. And yet we have to move on. Arrafat has moved on, as was acknowledged by the fact that he got the Nobel prize. Can you seriously claim that Arrafat is supporting terrorism at the moment?

    *If* they are indeed the terroriss they're claimed to be, well, yes, killing them might be a solution. Are they really those terrorists? Or are they instead key palestinian authority figures, and targetted to weaken Arrafat's power.

    My impression is that Sharon is playing with fire here, weakening Arrafat (and calling him a terrorsit or a "Bin Laden") is bound to give more legitimacy to the actual terrorist and violent factions of the Palestinian people, which in turn will justify Sharon's violent policy.
