  1. YOU are SIMPLY IGNORANT! on President's Tech Advisors Comment On OSS · · Score: 1

Sorry for my flames, but this is true.

Remember ALWAYS the tragedy of commons.
If you do not know of it, study a little bit of the British history.

If anybody can take something without paying back, everybody does take it without paying back.
Yes, there may remain a few idealistic geeks, who
    you shamelessly called 'communistic', who
contribute the open source codes. But their
number will definately converge to effective
ZERO. No one force you use GPLed codes, and GPL
is never perfect nor sacred but it's still the
    bullwark of the community.

And if you know there are World around you other
than your keybody & console, please do read RMS
arguments and some American history. It is always
pitty to see that many Americans call it
communistic that is deeply rooted in American
    tradition of artisan-professionalism

  2. Archiving tools for a person? on Pickling Australia's Online Past, Present, Future · · Score: 1

Hey man, even individuals may need their own archive, for each has his/her own selection criteria.
Do you know any web archiving, retrieging & browsing tool set or methodology?

Don't say that wget is enough! It fails, for this purpose,
    1) Many pages changes frequently. Archiving means when and what.
    2) Some identical pages changes url.

    Any suggestions?

  4. Why tight coupling to a RDBMS? on Ars Digita Founder Philip Greenspun · · Score: 5

First of all, thanks a lot for Philip and Alex's Guide to Web Publishing and introducing Edward Tufte's excellect books.

    My Question is:
What's the merit of tightly-coupled-to-Oracle architecture of acs(ars digita community system) as a web application platform? ZOPE is in my mind as the not-tightly-coupled-to-any-RDBMS web applicaton platform?

Some people came to ZOPE because they can not afford an Oracle(in my case, the prefernce of python to tcl played a lot).

Or any comment on the web application servers/platforms which does not have the honor of being commented upon in your web tools review is apprecitated GREATLY!

I know I have almost no chance of being moderated up. But please do nice to a question simillar to mine but written by a native English(or European language) writer.

  5. Any Gene Transfer Problem/Headache? on Toxic-Waste Consuming Bacteria · · Score: 1

Sorry, if this topic posted already, but I could not find any.

I've heard the bacteria exchange their genes in extreme environment through sex pili as you can see here. IMHO, if we have lots of genetically engineered bacteria, the possibility that the modified gene go wild among lots of *other* bacteria goes high. This is one of my nightmare.

Now the bacteria supposed to be applied in very hash environment. Hence the higher possibility. Hence the higher danger. Right(or not)?

Does Anyone has the knowledge/experience of this issue?

Please return me my sleeps or, at least, a reasonable reason of my sleepless nights!

  6. A Clear Error in BBC article. on Patron Saint of the Internet · · Score: 1

Isidore was not the 1st encyclopedia compiler.
Pliny the Elder was the known 1st encyclopedia compiler in the European setting. Isidore's work is regarded inferior to Pliny's in quality and quantity. And there are some Chinese candidates for the title "The 1st Encyclopedist", let alone other civilizations, though I believe that title must go to D'Alembert & Diderot.

Now I wonder, what happened to BBC writers' and editors' intelligence. When had this decline bagun?
