Actually, having to see it over and over...it does still haunt me. It has been ten years and it's still hard to think about. The reason I commented was that I can see how seeing people doing terrible things all day can break something in you.
I'm sure there are plenty of cases of doctors who are haunted by specific cases. Same with any of the other professions you mentioned. There is regular death and crime, and then there are those cases that are outside the norm that cause trauma. These people were tasked with finding the worst of the worst and had no support? That's asking a lot of a regular person.
