Why are all main stream distribution still only release their live/install media in CD/DVD image file? Why not USB?
you can put the fedora live isos on usb sticks. You either dd if=iso of=/dev/sdb1 or use liveusb tools to get a read-write overlay that persists across reboots.
I thought this was really cool when the first story was presented on slashdot several years ago. Since then I've been waiting for a SlashBack with more info of recent developments. Oh Well... The article seems to describe the exact same system (although in less detail).
I think that this would be a very neat idea, especially with gas being as high as it is right now. I just don't think that it's going to happen anytime soon, though. The only way it's going to happen is if big car makers start premaking there cars to a new system and they won't do that until they know it will bring them cash.
There is a utility program. Its on download.com but i'm not sure what it's called. It worked great for an RW that got corruppted on me once. Also i think(not sure at all) that you can mount an RW in linux in such a way that it ignores errors.

In his example he showed that his kernel version was the one that comes with RedHat 6.0 (2.2.5-15), which means that his explanation is good for after recent installs.

I wonder what kind of noise protection wooden peripherals produce? How did this company provide adequate shielding?
I could be way off, but isn't the noise interference that wires are subjected to be eliminated from something optical?
