While in AussieLand the Global Hawk is being trialed by the Australian Coastwatch (Federal Police I assume) to search our northern coastline for illegal immigrants and other assorted boats/planes that shouldn't be there either.
The other things to bear in mind is that it possibly travels a little faster than the Spirit of Butts Farms, which is a good thing considering how much coastline there is.
Actually, it might have to contend with our own brand of Redneck/Crazed Texan's up there too.
This is another example of it. Notice how BBC news is reporting it. Don't the Australians have their own news service? Would the BBC even care if something noteworthy happened in any of the other commonwealth countries?
Australian News services don't seem to care about science much. We (the viewing audience) are only interested in sport apparently. For a 30min news program, there will be 15 mins of sport.
There are a few science programs running around. Nearly all started life on the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corperation), and were purchased by the other TV stations when found to be successful. They were generally modified to suit the new stations ideals, and usually failed within a year or two.
Science does not get a lot of press over here. It's a pity really. There is lots of good stuff going on.
I don't know about the same encouragement in math and science.
I worked for three years as a computer-technician (System Admin - computer guru) in a private girls' school, and also at a co-ed catholic school.
Girls were encouraged in both schools to take computer studies and science and many did. So much so that there weren't always enough computers to go around in the computer classes.
One thing that I noted was that the girls seemed more interested in what the computer could do, rather than how.
Girls also weren't interested in trying to bypass the security settings; removing bits of hardware; defacing the equipment; or seeing how many chip packets could fit in a case after the drive covers had been removed.
Also with the girls you could leave the room and things that were on your desk wouldn't get stolen.
Girls could create a solution to a problem and be happy with it, while the guys would then try tweaking things until they got what they wanted, though this would take a while and probably be off-topic too.
Working in a girls' school was a real eye-opener in just how well they can perform with a computer, and it's a field that I'd like to get back into one day - maybe as a teacher. (real scarey thought there)
Final note - the girls also seemed to prefer to work in teams rather than on their own, whereas most guys I know, me included are happy to work on their own.
Christianity over its two millennia has done a lot of evil (Crusades, Inquisition, etc.). I was very heartened by the [march of apology] to those wronged by the Crusaders and the like.
Granted that a lot of evil has been done under the banner of Christianity.
Has not also a much more good been done under the same benner. It just doesn't get the same attention as people doing wrong. It doesn't get the ratings.
I have met some people who call themselves Christian that might fall into the categories you mentioned, but I don't think that I'd consider them to be.
a lot more 'moral' than Christians: Christian morals should always be based on what is contained in the Bible. These were designed with humans in mind and an intimate knowledge of what is good for us individually and as a whole. They are for our protection, not to stop us enjoying ourselves.
Unload responsibility for our crimes onto God We are responsible for our own crimes. God has given us free will. Though he knows each of us and how we will react, but the choice is still ours on how we do things. Who we befriend, who we abuse, who we kill. Through confessing our sins we share them with Jesus, but we still have to face the world's consequences of what we do. God has forgiven us and forgotten what we did, as he said he does.
Accepting Jesus will make everything okay Oh how I wish this were true. I have friends that are not Christians, that appear to have things all-together. But their lives appear to be missing that one that I have found. The knowledge that there is a plan to it all, and there is a God that wants us to be with Him for eternity.
Excuses for good/bad behaviour There is a devil out there. You may not believe in him, but I do and Jesus did. One of the devil's goals is to take people with him, away from God. He even tried to tempt Jesus. If you don't believe in God/Jesus then the devil doesn't have to do anything with you, he has already succeeded.
God is on our side Not really correct. We are in His side. He is our leader and example. In the same way that people don't always follow in the example of their leaders eg: parents; teachers; political. We Christians also rebel and go against God's wishes. In the same way that children rebel and go against their parents. Did you not ever question your parents motives when they were raising you to adulthood? Did you not understand their reasons? I had the same problems, but I thank my parents for how they raised me. I don't understand all that God teaches me, maybe one day I'll look back and realise - 'Yeah - there was a point to that happening then - Wow, thanks God'
Do exactly as they please, then claim God told them to do it God works through the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit can not go against God's word. Anything else that you may hear is not from God. We cannot just accept everything that we hear as being from God. Do you accept everything that you read on '/.' as being truth? No doubt there are people around here who are not working with this communities best interests at heart.
To force the rest of us to do it too That is just not true. It is up to each and every person to make a personal commitment to their own salvation. No-one else can do it for you. Others can lead you in directions that may have benefited them, but that is still only a guide. I became a Christian of my own choice, while my brother has rejected, he got basically the same teaching that I did
To bring this back on topic a tad. I've not seen the movie and I don't have any desire to. I've heard some of the music from my flatmates CD of the soundtrack. That put me off straight away. Personally I think that the series in question could be just as good if the swearing and a few of the themes were taken out, then it would not reflect the people it portrays. But then just about every priest/pastor/clergy/minister/christian I've seen in movies and on television was wildly inaccurate as well...
Yes I'd like to see the movie banned outright, but there are people who want to see it. That also means that there are people who wanted to make it - money drives us well doesn't it?
It's all well and good saying that hard drive access speeds have come up and that so have ram and cpu speeds, but the format of the data on the drives that is being retrieved hasn't altered all that much. We're still stuck with fat-16/32, ntfs, efs and the like.
Caches are good but the software can flood these. Just listen to the hard drive activity when Windows *.*, Novell load, they make the drive active seeking for most of the time that they are loading. (linux settles down a lot faster)
Games are another thing like this.
My pc has 64mb memory, if things were ordered good and God was smiling on game developers, then the game would be loaded in just over the time that the drives could transfer 64mb of data. (I know that I'm dreaming a tad here)
Maybe what we need is a way of doing speculative file access. Looking at files that an application needs and accesing them before the file actually requests them, possibly in a time while it is waiting for user input.

I think that seeing a squadron of small balsa-wood planes flying overhead would certainly attract my attention more that a single one.
With a GPS on them, they should be able to keep a fairly tight formation.

Another Christian Slashdot reader.
Christ died for you, will you live for Him?
