"A number of big-name magazines and newspapers have signed up to try the CAT, including Forbes, Wired, GQ and the Dallas Morning News.
Ads featuring bar codes to be CAT-scanned will begin in September.
Forbes is going to send free CATs to 810,000 subscribers in September; Wired will send 375,000 out to its readers in October. It will also be testing out the Digimarc technology.
Major investors in the CAT include Young & Rubicam, Tandy Corp. and A. H. Belo, publisher of the Dallas Morning News."
"One of the companies offering the new technology to advertisers is DigimarcCorp., based in Tualatin, Ore. It says Ford Motor Co., Visa USA Inc., SonyCorp., International Business Machines Corp. and Brown-Forman Corp.'s JackDaniel's whiskey all have signed on, willing to give it a try, especiallysince it adds only marginally to the cost of an advertisement."
Sadly enough, people will gladly give up even more of their privacy to play with the little gizmo.
In reference to the question "Does anyone think it can really happen?"... yes. It certainly can. As soon as people start to think "oh, that can't happen here, we don't have to worry about it" it becomes possible. If people don't think it can happen, they won't act on it, and nothing will be done to stop it.

I think that no matter what we must all admit that it is pretty cool to fit a full P2 system in the space of a 3x5 index card (the volume of two poptarts!). So its cool. Enough said.
But what about applications? I am considering picking one of these boards up. Anyone have any ideas on hobby projects? I think it will use too much power to build a small robot. Would a handheld P2 system be possible? Any other creative ideas (other than MP3 players)?
Other concerns: Where can I get tiny TFT screens? Are there any low power/small size hard drives? What about shock resistance? Anyone know where I can get a tiny keyboard?
Any suggestions would help! I will build a webpage to document the project's progress to keep everyone informed.
You can download a free/unlimited ActiveX control for X10 Firecracker at Kenware. I have not personally tried it, but it should allow you to write whatever control app you want.

bah.
The post says what would Crick have thought of this. As far as I know, he is still alive. FYI.

Just a suggestion.
