  1. whats wrong with CIPA/COPA? on ACLU & EPIC Will Challenge CIPA · · Score: 1

In theory, its a good thing right?

Protecting the institute from legal action arising from minor's accessing pornography and the like. As long as its done with the proper attitude and restraint. Certain things are ilegal and shouldn't be allowed to be seen, why doesn't that shock people into sueing the government?

I remember a few years ago when we in Canada had a news ban on all Carla Homolka (sp?) articles and information regarding the court case. Certain things are forbidden for a reason.

Anyways, its not like it realy matters that much to me, I have my own phone and internet connection.

I mean, its not like mac OS/X is realy a mainstream system.... the mac population covers roughly the same about of space as does the non comercial OS people...

and apple somewhat supports open source.. perhaps not their most secret inner workings, but its better then nothing..

Now, imagine being able to run photoshop and my usb scanner under linux because someone wrote mac drivers which could be converted? heck, id have absolutly no use for windows anymore..

What will the affect of all this be if the norweigen courts find that the DeCSS code was created within the leagal rights there?

If it was created legaly and the trade secrets released legaly there, would that cause the trade secret to become nullified?

    has anyone looked into this?

Acting in concert would to some degree mean communication. If i post it on my website, and you happen to find it, could you link to it? (it, the order, says that linking is not banned, does that mean you can link to the file? or would that be a bit extreme?)

I just read through the order, its almost an interesting read, funny in a way.....

ummm... it stated that the defendents must stop postin/hosting of the decss code, but they can talk about it, and link to sites with it (does that include linking directly to the file?) and says nothing about other people....

accordingly, if someone new hosts the file, they are not included in the order (unless they append a new list of defendents....) i think.... flame me if im wrong though...

Im not sure that using that method of distribution is going to help. PGP was original, and it was not that it was obtained/created to infringe upon anothers rights, it was against the law to export the executable code. The de encryption software supposedly encroches upon others rights. im not sure if im stating this well or not, but i see it more like pornography. its illegal in photograph, in print, and in the action.. (well... not yet) so if they are against the executable yes it would work, but if they are protecting algorythms (or what ever they come up with) wouldn't the uncompiled version be the same as the compiled? and thaere for teh same as the printed? after all C source code is a language, and teh binary executable says the EXACT same thing, just in a dfferent language? umm... --- 'to sleep, perchance to dream' W.S.

that makes sense. perhaps im just a naieve beginer at programing... (i am)

but dont all programs get told this by the OS? I thought protected memory was supposed to segment stuff from each other, to keep them all from knowing who all is out there. And what i have read from the documentation of VMware, it doesnt emulate the CPU (which would be slow) but lets it talk to the CPU (er??? doesn't it???)

hehehe... im having flashbacks to the matrix... maybe life was designed by VMware. With liuck my brain is running under linux, not nt.. =)

on a side note, what happens if you let VMware boot your linux drive under linux? or what happens if you have linux automaticaly boot NT under VMware and then have NT boot linu, and so on.. recursive OS! =)

wouldn't linux be able o give it a fixed ampount of RAM as an application and then let VMWare tell linux what to do with it? (er.. i guess im asking why is it different from any normal application? dont they all have protected memory?)

    arghh.. my head hurts now..
