  1. Re:What IS terrorism? on Anti-Terrorism Law Passed · · Score: 1

We did the same thing with hate crimes. Aren't all crimes done out of hate, especially violent ones. Why not extend the same courtesy for terrorism. Hey, even better let's extend it to having any alternate thinking or even further to those who agree with Mr. Feingold. For once I'm glad he's my Senator.

  2. Universities Teach How to Learn on Is A "Well-Rounded" Education a Good One? · · Score: 1

As a CS senior at Concordia University Wisconsin, I feel that a well rounded, theory based approach to computing is important. Our major's curriculum is based off of the CS-0 model from the ACM/IEEE-CS. This stresses a wide approach to CS. The reason for learning theory in CS classes is that in the four years of my studies, the computing world has changed drastically, while the theory underlying it has not. A program that teaches logical thinking and problem solving, rather than programming at first has benifits: The CS student will learn how to solve problems through the use of CS rather than how to code a program in one specific language. In addition most 4 year programs stress on the job training through internships. Another important factor is personal motivation, a student should go beyond the classroom and apply that which he/she has learned and actually use it. 3. Donate to needy CS majors on What Do You Do With Old Computer Parts? · · Score: 1

As a CS major, I am always looking out for what people would deem as "old" or "useless" computers. A 233, in my mind is a beautiful thing. I would love to use one of those slap a 1GB hard drive in it. Put slackware on and be able to tinker around on it. As said earlier, schools, charities, and churches may need computers, however they manytimes will want something that can run the latest OS from Remond. If you are willing to educate them on open source OS alternatives that would be the best charity work you can do.
