Wish the gov't would ban paperclips.. I can't take that clippy bastard anymore.. he keeps making noises.. and asking me if I'm writing a letter.. I didn't want an animated clippy thing, I just wanted an overpriced office suite! Agh!
My sentiments exactly, I managed to land a job in tech support at an ISP based solely on the fact that all my references in non-technical, labor intensive jobs were great (I was 17 at the time). The company gave me a 45 day trial, to see if I could cut it... by the end of the 45 days I had impressed them enough with customer service skills (learned at none other than K-Mart and Fast Food) and a pretty broad base of technical knowledge that they decided to keep me on. Been here for a year now. In that time I've learned that when you're inexperienced, don't have a degree in anything, and you're just trying to pay for gas and food and not try make a living... it's not about what you know.. but what you're willing to do. If your boss says look, someone in the accounts recievable department just quit, we need you to cover until we can hire someone new.. do it. I think over the course of the year I've done nearly every possible combination of job positions at this ISP for the simple fact that none of the other techs would step off their 31337 pedestal and do the grunt work. If you're a minor, you're going to get shit on, you're going to get the worst jobs, and you're going to get turned down or ignored. Best thing to do is to realize flipping burgers is opportunity to prove you can interact with humans and keep em' happy, not a horrible job for morons, and continue your search for a job you -like- in your off time.
