If you want to do it with GSM and SMS, you will have less things to worry about and more control. I had something similar to control el. devices using GSM. Take a cheap cellphone, take an Atmel or a philips micro-cont, poll the cell phone using handmade module and connect a live circuit, as soon as predefined sms comes complete the circuit. Depending on the controller you use, you can control up to 8 devices.
description: A systems and network monitoring system -- server programs
This package includes the spong daemon, which collects and stores
information from the spong client programs, and the program for sending
out messages when problems occur. .
Spong is a simple systems and network monitoring package. It does not
compete with Tivoli, OpenView, UniCenter, or any other commercial
packages. It is not SNMP based, it communicates via simple TCP based
messages. It is written in perl and easily modifiable. .
Its features include: .
* client based monitoring (CPU, disk, processes, logs, etc.)
* monitoring of network services (smtp, http, ping, pop, dns, etc.)
* grouping of hosts (routers, servers, workstations, PCs)
* rules based messaging when problems occur
* configurable on a host by host basis
* results displayed via text or web based interface
* history of problems
* verbose information to help diagnosis problems
* modular programs to makes it easy to add or replace check functions
or features
* Big Brother BBSERVER emulation to allow Big Brother Clients to be use
I had another problem, entire machine used to freeze whenever I used to rsync the entire/dev/sda2. I checked everything memory, fsck, hdparam none of them showed any problem, but when I just changed the HDD cable everything worked fine.
/var/log/messages,/var/log/syslog should give you enough info about kernel . Also there are lots of tools to enable various kind of accouting check sa.
Yep, I also had the same problems. Earlier I had installed XP prof on a 80 GB Hard disk, with 15 GB as a single partition. After that I replaced 80 GB with Samsung SV4002H 40 GB Hard Disk. I had created 4 GB partitions, but after setup's reboot it gives missing operating system errors. I'm sure that my bios has no problems as I can very well detect 80 GB. Also all parts (hardware) is perfectly well as I installed linux just to check them. I tried followings but no success 1)http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treevi ew/defaul t.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/reskit/prk d_tro_evwd.asp 2)http://www.computing.net/os2/www board/forum/1437.html
If there is lot of hardware change like display cards, network cards (as you are collecting and building) it will be difficult for setups. In suse you can create one selection disk and then replicate others over network. The network unattended installation can be done using various utilities. Look at replicator. For debain it's here http://packages.debian.org/unstable/admin/replicat or.html
Any one will supply any linux distro you want on dedicated machines. Mail any of the sales guy, you may have to pay little extra. Other company http://www.communitech.net/ which does Debian.
First SMS will not be free. If you are looking for reading and writing SMSes using a PC and Cell phone use http://www.gnokii.org.
Using this you can easily have a SMS Email Gateway or sms to internet gateway. You will be able to send/receive emails over SMS using this, though you have to write small scripts (If you want I can send mine). We had done a small project of controlling Electrical Devices using SMS.
You send SMS like "Lights on" to a cell phone which is connected to PC using Data Cable. Poll this Cell phone using Gnokii which will let you read the content of the SMS. Depending on the command you can take the action. For controlling Electrical Device we created a circuit (Search google for Coffee Cup) which was controled by PC parallel port. So when you receive a SMS saying "Lights On" you write one character to (numeric zero will send zero volt) parallel port which will generate 5 Volt current and in turn switch on lights.
You can use ab (Apache Benchmark) for load testing. For HTML pages use Mozilla and PreFill form option which will fill the last entered values for a html page. This is not completly automated but its useful for retesting after modification.

Designed with the non-technical user in mind, Camera/Shy's "one touch" encryption process delivers banned content across the Internet in seconds. Utilizing LSB steganographic techniques and AES-256 bit encryption, this application enables users to share censored information with their friends by hiding it in plain view as ordinary gif images. Camera/Shy is the only steganographic tool that automatically scans for and delivers decrypted content straight from the Web. Guess what Indians like from India are already moderating and meta moderating slashdot every day. Just thought that you should know.
Why do I feel that this has been asked earlier. Everytime either its which mobile/pda to buy or which can work with linux or which can sync data?
Why such posts are allowed again and again?

Look here http://technetcast.ddj.com/tnc_mp3.html
It has recorded mp3 interviews of people like Bruce Schneier, Gudio Van Rossum.
