  1. Re:Seanbaby is TOTAL crap. on Seanbaby.com · · Score: 1
the best part is that seanbaby is owned by a large company that makes its money by selling "counter culture"...well they sell ads on websites designed to look underground or homemade. In reality they are a large media corporation worth tens of millions if not more. Duh the marketing people aren't stupid...they sell both pop culture and counter culture...check out press releases from UGO. They are quite proud of the fact that they have cornered the "elusive male 18-35 market" and in corporate speak explain to would be investors and affiliates how by tapping into counter culture they have been able to generate millions of page views for advertisers across their network of 500 sites. Don't be fooled. If something seems to counter culture and rebellious to be real chances are it is. I guess the sheeple can enjoy being sold goofy t-shirts and trendy joysticks or something while they get their jollies feeling rebelious. To me these imitation homegrown sites are offensive.
You're not quite right; the original design of the site was all done by Sean. Once UGO bought us (Old Man Murray), Seanbaby, and Portal of Evil, they obviously brought in a team of designers to make the graphics and content even cooler than they were before. It's not a conspiracy, they're just protecting their investment. But it's not like they sent a 'corporation' to administer the sites. The people from corporate who review our content are just people. And they're pretty cool guys. We still write most of the stuff, then we email it to our "content advisor", who then makes sure nothing in a given article offends a sponsor. Sometimes, because of our target audience, the advisor is directed by an internal steering committee to actually add *more* rebellion to the story! The whole process only takes about 45 minutes, so it's not too much of a bother. Usually, about 10-20% of a given piece will need to be rewritten. But a lot of the time, the content advisor will just go ahead and rewrite it for us. So don't prejudge something without getting all the facts first. Erik
