I'm shocked. NO mention of NBC's The Profiler? That's what CSI struck me as a copy of. Now THAT was an interesting show. There was forensics in that show too, but it wasn't primarily focused on it.
I always thought of the web, whether it's a dumb geocities page or something truly useful like mapquest and imdb is "give". You give content to the web for everyone else to enjoy and you surf everyone else's content.
Why does there have to be e-commerce involved all the time? Yes, I know severs and bandwidth costs money, but let's not have banner ads and such for ALL web pages. I know C$erve charged extra for "premium content", and that's no longer. I still don't see myself paying monthly for a website when there's most likely hundreds of other equivical sites for free.
I'll one up you on that. I prefer to buy full-length albums, but the few music stores I go to don't carry them anymore it seems(or it's on permanent amorutorium(sp?)). I am on the hunt for 2 Blondie releases(as to complete my collection) and several Devo relases, but all they seem to carry is greatest hits compilations and remixes ad nauseum.
Don't get me started on the unavailability of the Pi soundtrack.
I have never, EVER purchased a CD single before. Why should I pay $10 or more for a bunch of remixes of the same song? If I want remixes, I go to Napster or a similar service..
This guy reminds me of Officer Hege(or whatever his name is), that hot-roddin' tough-as-nails LART-welding sheriff that even has his little cable show in the county jails of the little hick town he guards, except he's a lawyer and his hick town is the Internet.
And there has been some accusations of officer Hege dragging innocent people out of their homes and beating them senseless.
That's why I never signed up with them even when i was begging for *DSL. Fortunately, my patience came through and I'm happy with Qwest for DSL.
I just about dropped my jaw on the triple-figure fees they were charging, which were slower than Qwest's. They even charge you if you aren
t aronud for the install. Do they credit you if THEY don't show?
Do they also have controversial(not at the time) cartoons and such like Little BLack Sambo, or the WW2 Warner brothers toons? I wanna see Daffy Duck go to war!
The same time Slashdot was down last night, Yahoo on its front page mentioned MS demoing Windows XP, yet there's nothing on Slashdot mentioning it. Coincidence? I'm going to have a talk with the acronym commmittee chairs about this one.
I remember watching a show where an airplaine's skin was fitted with glue capsules, so it actually "bruised", making a clear indication to mechanics where the plane's been hit.
I know the dialin lines for the university of minnesota had the opportunity for ANI when they did their upgrade several years ago. *67 doesn't block that. Be afraid, be very afraid.
I wonder if Traci Lords movies are filtered. After all, Traci Lords films are legal in Germany, when she was doing them at the tender age of 16. Yet in the USA, it's considered K I D D I E P O R N
Is there a standard out there like SVG(a nice XML based format that I'm counting on getting popular) for 3D models? I'd love to make a bunch of 3D models and such for fun and be able to use it in one edior or the other.

All those 3.5 inch floppes would make great armor. Get some knives, and you can make ninja throwing stars out of AOL CDs.

I guess popularity( for web sites) has its price.

Does Avantgo(my palm's too old to use it) have ad banners jammed into downloaded web sites to your Palm?
Expect a rash of Palm parody ads regarding this>
10.00am - drop off kids at school
12.00pm - lunch at TGIF
4.00pm - hand off documents to KGB agents
What's on your Palm?
He brags as if he were Jeff K of somethingawful.com, but all the words are spelled correctly.

I would someday like to be able to create Lego pieces from scratch.
I see your Tunak Tunak Run

Forget that, I want one of those talking chairs.

Hasn't everyone been fooled so much by goatse.cx they just reroute it to 127.0.0.1 in etc/hosts?
You just came up with an amazing idea. Disguise your emails as Jon Katz rants. That way, nobody would WANT to read your intercepted email.
This reminds me of how Simon Templar talked to his clients in The Saint.
Yes, why not the best of both worlds? The stability/guts of Linux, the consistent GUI of windows.
Okay, this is a "mee too" post, but I ran out of my SLashdot moderator rations.
Yes, but the Prisoner is a cult-classic tv show that will always remain one of my favorites, while Saving Silver man is....

They apparently made 9 different endings for Sliver, and the film still sucked.
