Huh? How is windows 7 less customizable than say XP? If anything once you get used to the new layout of certain things (explorer comes to mind) its a lot more customizable and convenient than XP ever was. If you think Windows 7 isn't very customizable you would utterly hate MacOS X where it is Jobs way or the highway. I mean there is very little you can actually customize in MacOS. You can tweak the dock a little and change the bar colors but that's really about it.

For maximum tweakage there is always Linux.......

What's the deal with Slashdot still using the Bill Gates Borg icon to represent Microsoft? That icon is so dated on both levels these days. Bill Gates hasn't worked at Microsoft in years, and the Borg reference just is no longer current or relevant. Anyone under 25 would hardly get the references.

You guys just had a redesign, and you still can't deign to use the real Microsoft icon? For gods sake you have the real ones for Facebook and Twitter, it's not like its that hard. If anything, it makes slashdot just look so horribly unfunny and irrelevant.

This is an on-topic meta comment.

I fail to see why IE 10 would not run on vista which is like 98% the same as Windows 7. What could there possibly be in Windows 7 that Vista lacks? It even has DX11. So hardware acceleration is not the issue.... I mean seriously. There is probably some mere flag in the installer that forces it to only work on Windows 7 and that is likely the only thing preventing it from running on Vista.

I mean google chrome runs on ancient P4s running XP. Give me a break.

The comparison between super metroid and metroid is an excellent one. Or compare super mario 3 (the nes's most advanced game at the time) to super mario world. (a launch game)

The only generation that was not a huge leap forward was the Wii. Even the gamecube was as much of a jump (actually more so) as the PSX to PS2 was. Nintendo seems more interested in introducing new forms of gameplay much more than improving the relative power of their machines. Even the 3DS is not much more improved than say a PSP graphically. In fact it has a lower resolution.

Given the relative power of handheld devices today, it would make a lot of sense for them to work on one codebase and adapt different UIs. Android is doing this and this has been the strategy for meego from the start. WP7 is probably going to become the next feature phone OS. I don't see microsoft making many inroads against android with their current offering.

Really? Windows 7 is hardly any different than XP. There is some bling here and there, but other than that its more or less functionally the same. The start bar is a little different, but not drastically so. There are so many reasons to run windows 7 over xp if your hardware can support it. better security is a huge one. You can also run a classic windows theme and make it look like windows 2000. I mean you like XP but hate 7 because of the interface? I just don't see how it is so fundamentally different. In fact it seems like a vast improvement in a lot of ways.

An 80 mile range on an electric is abysmal if you ask me. You can't even drive somewhere that is 1/2 hour away without worrying about getting home ok. That would leave many people unable to even get from say their suburb to town and back comfortably. Something with that low of a range is for really local commutes and that's it. How ultimately useful is that? And what do you do when you run out? This technology really isn't ready for mass consumption. I'm sure people will love their electrics until they get stuck somewhere. When instant recharge batteries start hitting prime time we will have something that can compete with the sheer availability and convenience of gas.

While the arm core may not be as fast as a galaxy, it can't be nearly as slow as my ancient G1 at 600mhz, which is happily running froyo at the moment and has the least amount of RAM of any android device. (192MB) If 512mb in android isn't enough for you maybe you need to lay off all the widgets and background apps stealing CPU cycles. I would imagine that a lean Nook running froyo would be more than just usable.

The galaxy tab is nice, but also over twice the price of a nook. For some speed isn't everything. I mean what are we really talking about here? Another 2-5 seconds to load a web page? Another 2-3 seconds to load an app? Does everything have to be immediate? I don't see the appeal of the tab either. The honeycomb based tablets are the next generation. It will be interesting when that level of hardware starts hitting close to the price of a nook now.
