I occasionally do interviewing of college hires. I like to ask questions like "Tell me about a project where you worked with other people." and "What was your role in the project?" If it sounds like the candidate has never worked in a group or doesn't get along with others, I will usually take a pass.
In our workplace, the ability to work in a group is crucial. I think that colleges should insist that at least some projects are done in a group.
