I am a New Yorker transplanted in Los Angeles. The last 4 days have been painfully trying as I first tried to get in touch with loved ones to ensure their safety, and then tried to feel their first-person pain and suffering from 2500 miles away.
Throughout it all, Slashdot has, far and away, been my most reliable, most emotional and most trusted source of information and personal accounts.
I rarely, if ever, post to messageboards.
I felt compelled to thank you today, Slashdot.
