I'm sure that that Chinese American fellow who was beaten to death by a gang of white racists in Detroit who thought he was Japanese (and therefore stole "American jobs") appreciates your designating him as an honorary white. Not to mention the Japanese Americans who had their homes stolen back during World War II because they were Asian (um, if not, why weren't Italians and Germans put in camps.) Oh! And all the Chinese workers who were shot by the railroad, their spirits are probably so happy that they are now "honarary whites" according to you.

Oh, and a lot of the Jews who were sent off to the gas chambers in Nazi Germany were what we would today designate as middle class. They had money and decent lives, and as society slowly turned against them some of them never believed that their society could set out to exterminate them, when they held respected positions in their communities. That's why so many were caught by surprise, and ended up dying in camps. In fact, that's the reason why people were suing Swiss banks for money (taken from murdered Jewish men and women in Nazi Germany), and why some people in Germany, even today, will have problems if you dig too deeply into the houses they inherited.

Hmm, it seems some people have entirely missed the point of the Voices from the Hellmouth article. The string of school shootings, and the hysterical reaction to them, has caused a witch-hunt like atmosphere in American schools. The truth is, the perpetrators of these acts don't seem to all fall into the geek catagory. Just using the Internet doesn't make you a geek, besides, what about those two children in Arkansas? Were they geeks, I never heard that they used computers a lot or were Internet junkies. Maybe the Columbine murderers were geeks,maybe not, but more importantly they were Nazis. No, what's happening is the easiest target is being attacked for the country's ills. In this case, non-conformist kids in suburban schools are under attack. But it's not because they are going to shoot up a school, any more than it was true when ignorant people blamed Jews and witches for the Black Plague.
Those kids didn't fit a simple pattern, besides, the profiling is just being used against undesirables. I mean, the kids who shot and killed other students in Arkansas were hunters, why aren't hunters being targetted? Could it be that school administrators just want to "get those freaks"?
Hatred of intellectuals is no joke, just ask anyone who lives in Cambodia. Someone asked a monk there recently how they could tell who was or was not an intellectual. "If you wore sunglasses," said the monk. Millions of people were slaughtered there, and some just for appearing to belong to a certain unpopular group. Today, you only see foriegners in Cambodia wearing sunglasses.
Hi, something called The National School Safety Center has issued a list of characteristics that teachers and parents should watch for in students. While some of the stuff on the list, such as cruelty to animals is a valid reason for concern (it's disgusting behaviour even if it doesn't indicate violence against humans in the future!), some of the stuff on the list makes me concerned that whoever is in charge of this organization is out to get us non-conformists. Here are some examples of language I find troubling:
Has few or no close friends. Hmm, I had "few or no close friends" when I was young.
Has witnessed or been a victim of neglect or abuse in the home. Hmm, I had witnessed and been a victim of abuse in the home. What about from fellow students and teachers?
Consistently prefers TV shows, reading materials, movies or music expressing violent themes, rituals and abuse. Hmm, just about all major literature has violence in it. I like the rituals part... does that mean that if I enjoy reading Catholic religious books I'm suspiscious? It sounds like the influence of the "Dungeons and Dragons=Devil Worship" Brigade is still at work, how nice.
Reflects anger, frustration and the dark side of life in school writing projects. Remember, everything is nice and happy all the time! Teachers don't want to read about it if you are upset about some of the terrible things your government is doing with cluster bombs in other parts of the world! Don't write about such dark things, stay nice, bland and mellow. Don't say anything unless you know everyone else agrees!
Is involved with a gang or an antisocial group on the fringe of peer acceptance. Remember, peer acceptance is the most important thing in the universe. If you can't fit in because of some physical defect or clumsy social skills, well... perhaps the kindest thing would be to put you to sleep. After all, you are a threat now! Popular jocks never do terrible things...
Is often depressed and has significant mood swings.
Has threatened or attempted suicide.
Has tantrums and uncontrollable angry outbursts.
Remember, if you are a teenager, moodiness is not an option! Someday, we'll put computer chips in the brains of all teenagers to suppress such dark urges! For now, though, you'll have to do it yourself! Remember, suppress, suppress, suppress, let a smile be your umbrella.
Sigh..... oops seems this wonderful document is getting me depressed... better take some "happy pills" now! Oh, by the way, despite my "dark" personal profile, I managed to get through high school without hurting anyone at all... even with no girlfriend and no friends. In fact, I've never physically harmed anyone in the 30 years I've been alive. (I've always been kind to animals, too.) Now I'm a married professional, hmm... how can this be?
