Become an advanced civilization with full open source nanotechnology manufacturing (and medical nanotechnology) available to the average person, we will have to rely on these big (closed source hardware and softwar), like Apple and Microsoft to produce our products we need.
Aubrey de gray (SENS, Mprize project) said (about 10 years ago) that 1 billion R&D would be needed to develop good therapies (using biotechnology and nanotechnology) to get a good handle on controlling and reversing aging.....he figures that we are now 5 years away from the first therapeutic application of this actually hapenning (see fightaging.org).....these wars in the Middle East (since 9-11) have done so much destruction and drained away many thousands of billions (4,500 X 1000,000,000 DOLLARS) that a very tiny fraction of that could have given us a working life extension tech by now.......youâ(TM)re going to need this tech to repay all those student loans off, not to mention hoe long itâ(TM)s going to take to take on a mortgage to eventually buy an apartment or small house!!!! Also, a lot of high tech companies tend to dump you once you as soon as you reach your early 40â(TM)s (even way back in 1974, it was a major problem for electrical engineers at certain companies), !!
Sounds about right.....I worked for some Asians (here in Canada),....merit is rewarded...I think that the crowd that shouts (USA, USA, we are the best, everybody envies us etc) need to take off the rose colored glasses, reality is that the oligarchs like trump and the political machines like the Republicans and the (Republican lite: corporate Democrats) do find that the authority centered countries like China can get things done and after all, world companies function better when there is less political turmoil (except for blackwater type companies and of course the war machine military complex (world wide).

Yes, and the fact that itâ(TM)s closed source and the fact that Billions of people use it means that it should by its very nature be forced to become open source like when something is used by everyone and people are forced to use it then it must go into the public domain much like xerox became a term to imply copying and could no be considered to have special rights anymore
About time that the (writable) microcode ( and the microcode roms (internally), if any, were declared open source, non of this mysterious black box nonsense any more, as all intel/AMD computers now run most everything everywhere, as it is too important to tolerate anymore. These closed boxes of operating systems and closes internal cpu Architectures (and internal closed âsecurityâ(TM) features).
