  1. Dayton's Folly on Minnesota Senator Says Email Tax Might Reduce Spam · · Score: 1

We in Minnesota are used to our polticians purposing grand plans without a clue as to the underlying problem or how to implement the plan. Sen. Dayton is following in this tradition. How would such a tax be determined and collected? Who would get the money? The government. What would they do with the money? Heaven only knows. Who ends up paying for this? Lawabiding users of the internet. There is no place for the government in the spam fight. They6 have already passed laws that do not get enforced or are enforced loosely. Let the internet find a tech solution.

DASD - direct access storage device; used to refer to disk storage (such as 3350's, etc.) Has been in use since the early System 360 days. IPL - initial program load, "booting" a mainframe operating system. MVS - once upon a time, the flagship IBM mainframe operating system in the business world; quite powerful, quite large and a pain in the butt at times. JCL - job control language; used to control batch processing. comes in many flavors depending upon the OS you are working with. RPG - report program generator here's a couple more oldies but goodies: VM - virtual machine operating system - my personal favorite IBM OS. Dates back to pre-PC, pre-Unix dates. CICS - this is what we used for online access by users. Hope this helps from one of those 'dying breed' they are talking about

  3. Re:Sci Fi channel doing more literature? on Sci-fi Channel's Children of Dune · · Score: 1

" Would anyone else besides me like to see Sci Fi channel concentrate more on adapting SF literature than on recent bad horror films?" Damned straight. Bad horror flicks, stupid shows about analyzing dreams, Casper the Ghost movie ... the list is always growing. If there is a market for horror movies then why not run them on a Horror Channel? Then focus SciFi on SciFi content including some decent anime.

Most the spam I get comes through open relays in China, Korea and Japan. A fair amount can be tied back to somename.ru domains and a certain chunk of the crap comes from somename.it.
