Wow, that was really insightful.....I can see someone's been reading the writings of Karl Marx, or Mein Kampf............you lost me at the sucking tit thing...or maybe I was just distracted; probably just distracted.
And when has a politician in ANY generation not tried to paint a scenario like the one you describe in an 'anti-party' light? All politicians (not just American) do the same thing.
I think people tend to forget that a handful of terrorists brought a superpower to their knees with nothing more than box-cutters. Is the government overreacting? Maybe, however as a politician I would be hard pressed to explain to a family or nation why their sons/daughters and 3000+ people died because of a razor blade. Hence the PA crash I imagine. I will never condone the Patriot Act, however I can understand the backlash, which according to news articles has identified at least 12 (highly) potential terrorists living in the US. Is it right? Not by our standards, however we're not playing by 'their' rules. Most Americans just want to go on with life with no spectacular terrorist acts or bombings; as I suspect most world citizens want to do......either from the US, Israel or the UK. I guess there is no simple answer other than taking a 'time-out' to truly evaluate what's happening on a global basis. Are terrorists a threat? Yes. What can we do about it globally....I don't know. Maybe we just just all hold hands for a moment (as governments) to reflect and project vision on what the planet is to become. I don't have all the answers but I wish people here on Slashdot would not pretend that they do...it makes the problem worse. No, I'm not tree hugging hippie, just someone who sees a situation getting out of control.

To the victor go the spoils. That's always been the end result of war.
As I recall, the French were also in Vietnam; prior to the US getting involved. What happened there? Besides, I don't give a shit if you think we're "boorish and uncivilized"; especially when the only reason France (as part of the security council) didn't agree with going to war because of the vast amounts of debt owed to it by Iraq....and the possible payout afterwards. Even now that Hussein is out of power France wants in on the action to recoup some of it's losses prior to the war by "helping with reconstruction". NOW who's boorish? No wonder people hate you. You claim to embrace some form of democracy (or republicanism, whatever) while expecting to expend as little effort as possible to maintain it without outside assistance. Blech. Whatever.
The Navy will most likely not let personnel on deck during firing.....similar to a battleship's 16-inchers firing (I don't know if you've ever even SEEN one of those guns fire but it knocks your socks off, trust me). Besides, I think I'd rather be on deck for the sonic booms that the rail gun creates than be next to one of the Wisconsin's main guns when it goes off.
Who's the moron? The poster never mentioned anything about 'clean'. The reasoning behind puting nuclear silos in farmlands was because the US KNEW they would be a military target; hence if hit, would produce less human casualties. Anyone alive for the last fifty years is well aware of fallout and yes, it's scary. The poster's response was from a military viewpoint...not a civilian one, so please stop the pompous responding "verse by verse" crap. Besides, I'd like to test that theory on this planet anyway since there's so much intelligent life here...you included.
Insurance companies don't give a shit about statistics unless they're in their favor....the whole point of the business I guess. If they have to dish out to you even once, WHAM, there go your premiums because they weren't expecting to pay out in the first place. Sheesh, what a scam. You pay more because of other people and also pay more after a claim. What a bunch of assholes.
...that the USA just outlaw music all together. That way the RIAA dies and we can start over again from scratch in about 75 years...isn't that the current 'Mickey Mouse' mandate by the government?
I believe you raise an interesting point. Einstein was a clerk that just happened to have a brilliant mind....would he need a doctorate to PROVE that he had a brilliant mind? I guess the "proof is in the puddin'" so to speak. I think the varying levels of degrees are just benchmarks to show a level of competency in your respective field. It IS possible to be competent but a total hack; in any industry. I guess that's why they have licensing in the medical and civil engineering fields....because lives are generally at stake.
Blech....how would you like YOUR doctor to falsify your test results for cancer to 'prove' a theory? With this guy's integrity he wouldn't even tell you.
Oh Jesus, you have NOT been to America then. Go to Miami, go to LA; hell Go to New Orleans and tell me about the language. Actually go to the central portion of Green Bay, WI and tell me if you can communicate with the Hmong. Offsetting, yes. Are they willing to change....no. Live it and you'll see. It must be nice to have an opinion from the outside.
I agree with your assessment because I deal with Indian workers as part of my job on a daily basis, however if you expect Joe Schmoe to expect that reasoning when all he wants is simple technical support you're high. I've experienced it myself several times where I've had to request a different support person several times because I could not understand them. Then what's the point of outsourcing? It made me angry not just at the hardware/software company but at the fact I had to stay on the phone for 3 hours to fix the problem. Like I said; frustrating.
You're nearly right. Quality (at least from the US perspective) is expected after any given purchase; for whatever product. In other words quality is a gimme. If I don't get that level of service from an Indian customer service representative because I can't understand him then the quality of the service is not there. I think we've all experienced that.
Actually, I wasn't even referring to abortion; just conflicts. But hey, you're right....about the abortions anyway.
Killing babies has NEVER been specific to this century, this administration or any war. Look it up....even for the last 5 presidencies.
Since when has national security become a myth? Since 9/11?
Wow, that was really insightful.....I can see someone's been reading the writings of Karl Marx, or Mein Kampf............you lost me at the sucking tit thing...or maybe I was just distracted; probably just distracted.
I don't think I want geeks to 'bare' anything, especially on-line.

Yes....your suggestion is a re-run.
...that the USA just outlaw music all together. That way the RIAA dies and we can start over again from scratch in about 75 years...isn't that the current 'Mickey Mouse' mandate by the government?
Right....and other political party members NEVER do that. Idiot.

Oh, that's a receipt too....especially when your wife / husband wants a divorce.
Blech....how would you like YOUR doctor to falsify your test results for cancer to 'prove' a theory? With this guy's integrity he wouldn't even tell you.
And where did that number come from?

Oh, and we're supposed to just agree with you because you say "yes". Nice.

That, is one of the most insightful posts I've ever seen on Slashdot. Thanks.
You said it all..."rights for me but not for you". So I guess in the tech industry you're more equal than me.
