You're absolutely right: what Allen suggests doing is common sense. However glib dismissals like "that's just common sense" are not helpful for two reasons. The first being that what's common sense to one person may not be to another. (That's why people still drink and drive, I believe). The other reason is that there is value in creating a structured system around common sense. I took a budgeting/home economics class in highschool. The contents should be common sense... don't spend more money than you've got, and know where its going. But there are record numbers of people declaring bankruptcy.
The fact that a book lays out a common sense system and provides some rigidity really doesn't mean that it has no value.
I'm not sure what the situation is like where you are, but here in Ontario the impact of politics on the education system has left us very short of teachers with applied skillsets. The pay is low (teachers here start from between $28K to $34K), and during the year you'll have to work long hours, but you'll get all the same vacations as your kids, and you'll be working to improve a system from which they'll benefit!
I haven't seen this mentioned, so I'll post. Check out CheapPalm.com. They've got a Palm III with keyboard bundle for Snow Pesos $50 right now. They sell and ship to the US as well.
The biggest problem with this route is the terrible editing in memo. I've never found a half-way decent text editor for the thing.
The Good, Easy system worked for me back when I used it. The premise is to get everything into plain text, and use simple tools to manage it. There's a Wired article on it, and the source documents to the Good, Easy Desktop and Good, Easy email are at Winterspeak.
Chad has asked me to put a notice regarding the files not being available (any longer) on SourceForge. Here's his mail:

I've got to run to work (I'm late!), but if one of you could please put a post on the slashdot article explaining the problem I would be very thankful!
It seems I broke a rule at sourceforge which limits file sizes to 100MB
If someone could offer a mirror site I would be very thankful for that as well!
Thanks! Chad
Here's what sourceforge had to say

Her first book? Is that or is that not her "webserial cyberdetective" novel?

Has anyone dropped the $30 for the Outlook GTD whitepaper? Is it worth it?
If you're interested, here's the job outlook for all of Canada. The Ontario College of Teachers has a lot of job preparation information. I'm sure you'll be able to find the same for the states.

I've done some summarizing, actually. Hope this is halfway useful.
