I tend to disagree, the technology WAS there, decades ago with the Newton. Somehow since then we forgot how to do it right and we have barely usable tablets running some sort of windows or silly media players ( ipad )
But if we did it once, we can do it again, even better. Id love to have a newton with the new glass touchscreens and faster processors..
Odd, i was writing a document the other day at the office and it let me erase words i didn't want. What editor are you using where you cant erase text or drawings?
If you just have to check email while in class, then perhaps a bit of discipline is in order. That's not a technology issue
TPM/DRM at the board level and require special clients ( like netzero ) to be inserted into your IP stack. You cant have ANY file that isn't approved by the 'key server'. Even your lowly diary has to be approved, let alone music, books, movies, games, applications. Connect online without your trusty TPM enabled client, you get reported.
Great way to kill off free speech too, that old non DRM'd PDF of Mein Kampf you legally bought off Amazon years ago is no longer permitted, AND you get reported the next time you try to view it off your backup CDROM copy.
I agree totally. It should NOT require that sort of horsepower to display a freaking web page.. That is what 'web' was all about.. moving the horsepower to the servers.
As far as Adobe being lazy.. its rather appropriate since most sites that use flash are done by lazy developers.
Its smaller and lighter. Wifi is not around 100% of the time and not everyone can afford an extra 3G ( does ubuntu even support a 3g usb adapter? ).. so often times your shiny net book becomes just a shiny paperweight.
That way what you do today that is completely legal, can be used against you in 10 years when it isn't legal. Oh, and add location services, based on cell phone records, credit card purchases ( must ban cash ) street corner cameras, etc.
If you have to be coddled with such 'safety devices' and are not capable of driving without, perhaps you are the problem, and not the car. Treating the public like virtual invalids only breeds them.
And for those that just cant get it, they can take the safe bus, and get out of the way of those of us who can take care of ourselves.
I wasn't questioning the GP on the facts, i was commenting on his apparent approval of the 'feature'.
Until you have actually driven a real car, with no stupid computers isolating you, you haven't driven. Its a shame really. A new generation will never appreciate what its like to rumble down the road, windows down, with a roar from a 426hemi with 3 2bbl carbs, and having to actually shift gears.
Soon, just drive by wire, automatic navigation and a faint whirrr of an electric motor.. Blech
There is still no excuse for Toyota not coding the ECU to cut throttle when it senses that the driver has BOTH the throttle and the brakes on simultaneously. All drive by wire VW/Audis are setup this way.
So you have never 'power braked' as a kid to impress the girls i take it.
Only the internet that they want to give you access too, and that your government approves of.
But restrictions, no.
Assuming the judges aren't paid off ahead of time, the first suit will have this nonsense struck down.
The technology isn't there just yet.

Taking actual notes during the lecture does force you to actually pay attention and perhaps learn some along the way.
Anyone can just read cliff notes after hours.

If you use a tablet, with some sort of handwriting ability, you can get the best of both worlds. Add a camera, and its even better.
Biggest problem is battery life. My pad of paper wont run out 1/2 thru the day..
They are doing it with Digital TV now, so don't discount it happening sooner then one would think.
More like 99% if you include the non malicious stupidity into the mix.
But that very thing is slowly taking place, first in the fast food industry.
He who has the money makes the rules. And apparently that isn't the ISPs down there.

Ok, fine. its important. How about award the teams that started the entire thing instead?
Having old hardware should NOT be an issue when you are hitting a web page.
And its not just flash that is the issue. The entire mindset you just displayed is the core of the problem.

As far as Adobe being lazy.. its rather appropriate since most sites that use flash are done by lazy developers.
And have the customers complain that its too slow? They wont blame flash, they will blame the device/Apple.
Its a no-win situation for apple.

They can be, and sometimes are, retroactive. ( drug laws, gun laws, and tax rate changes come to mind as easy examples )
Even if they are not constitutional, you have to get your case heard by the supreme court. Until then it stands.
But it worked on tv..
And lots of tax dollars.

Stop the bus, i want off.
I don't care who's software it is, if its been released for this long, its time to pony up or just quit using it.
I see it a different way:
If you have to be coddled with such 'safety devices' and are not capable of driving without, perhaps you are the problem, and not the car. Treating the public like virtual invalids only breeds them.
And for those that just cant get it, they can take the safe bus, and get out of the way of those of us who can take care of ourselves.
Not everyone feels that its progress.
