Burst sued Microsoft for restraint of trade (bullying Intel and others into changing their minds and choosing not to license Burst code -- yes CODE), breach of contract (violating an NDA), anti-trust (essentially killing Burst's business through the intentional application of monopoly power), AND patent infringement. This case was far less a matter of Microsoft infringing Burst patents than it was Microsoft obtaining confidential access to, then STEALING Burst technology, which happened to be all those nifty improvements they added to Windows Media 8.

We have dropped running drives on the floor during a read or write with no damage despite the G-load. The head and disk deflect as one and any differential movement is handled by the air bearing causing the metal foil to move away fromt he head, which it can't do on a rigid drive. As long as the disk is spinning it is very resistant to damage and when it isn't spinning the head is retracted and unable to cause damage.

  4. Elvis and tabloid journalism on Net: Now Our Most Serious News Medium? · · Score: 1

Generally I agree with you, but not when it comes to Elvis and the tabloids. I have been in the news business for 34 years, which predates by more than a decade the death of the King. Tabloids were as big before Elvis died as after. They got no respect then and get no respect now, but people have been reading tabloids for more than a century and national tabloids have been in circulation for more than 50 years.
