Back in the late 1970's - when I was first involved in "DP" (data processing), this type of technology was already being implemented in computers (which were all mainframes back then -except Datapoint, but that's another story).
General Electric was using this concept in their GE 600 series, which became the Honeywell 6000 series, which begat Multics which begat UNIX etc. etc. etc.
Anyhow, the only "new" thing about this idea is that its being implemented on a microprocessor. I've been waiting for micro-engineers to catch on; glad to see that at least someone finally has.
On the other hand, this may be already in use at Intel or Motorola etc. but Sun has a blow-your-horn policy(?)
