At the newspaper I do some tech consulting for, we substituted during the summer the NT 4.0 box serving as mail server with a FreeBSD 4.3 system with sendmail. We added AntiVir MailGate for FreeBSD (http://www.antivir.de/) for antivirii protection, NOCC for webmail, and everything has been working wonderfully since then -- uptime is approaching 100 days on this low-to-medium traffic server (about 6000 mails a week). The next step would be to exchange IIS with Apache, but that takes more time. The rest of the newspaper is running a proprietary Windows-based editorial system.
