I have to agree with this. The company I work for went this route and after a lot of pain and numerious conflicts and days without getting anything done we finally came to a compromise. We would have two workstations. One workstation would be for business related activities; word, excel, mail etc. The second box was a developers box and we controlled this internally to the group. As for the developer box, we went with the image concept that was mentioned above. If the developer fries his system then he gets a new image.
