    I see how this is an interesting concept, and maybe leaves you with a warm fuzzy feeling inside, but unless an ipod is the type of thing you buy every couple of days on a whim, it doesn't seem that useful...

    It's useful for getting your purchases rung up as quickly as possible when there's a line waiting to get into the store. If you'd been in an Apple store anytime in the last month, you'd understand.

    No, even 15 people on a bus is far more efficient than 15 people driving 15 cars in terms of space and fuel economy.

    You're not paying attention. There are a lot of bus routes where you rarely have even 15 people on the bus in California.

    .. like all the other Python coders on the Mac. While you're at it, check out PyObC. It gives you full access to all of Apple's Obj-C frameworks from Python.

    The reason little Objective-C is used outside of the Apple/Cocoa world is that it isn't standardized.

    I wouldn't agree that that's a factor at all. Obj-C is available everywhere that GCC is. The reason that most Obj-C coders are using Cocoa, is that they learned Obj-C because of Cocoa (or NeXTSTEP).

    As a matter of fact, this is how I manage personal info on my OS X Macintosh. I create an strong-encrypted virtual disk image

    That has nothing to do with PGP. The Mac OS has had this feature since Panther, and the encryption it uses is AES-128.

    Recent benchmarks at Anandtech showed OSX getting absolutely demolished by Linux in IO-related benchmarks.

    That's because Apple really does flush to disk when you call fflush().

    It appears Amelio already did much of the reorganisation needed for keeping the company afloat, thus paving the way to success for Jobs.

    Well, yes and no. He did the necessary write-offs and shut down the Copland debacle, but there was still a hellacious amount of work to do when Steve took over.

    The real irony here is that Steve Jobs is calling Garbage Collection "slow" despite the fact that Apple sells a micro-kernel based OS

    OS X has the Mach Kernel and the BSD kernel services layer in the same address space, along with the device drivers, etc. Care to make any more uninformed pontifications?

    Not as simple as LISP? I'd argue it is much simpler. You can teaching Objective-C in a day (assuming C knowledge!)

    Exactly: "assuming C knowledge".

    You can't teach C in a single lecture, like you can with LISP.

    Bread-lines are to communism what Diebold is to (representative) democracy.

    The difference being that bread lines were pervasive throughout the soviet union for all of its history, while the diebold voting machines are a recent problem which is being vigorously fought in court.
