Well, it's not like the devices won't work... They just won't be updated. I agree that Google made a huge mistake but they don't care. They shifted and they expect everyone to follow. Because we are all sheep we will. We don't really have a choice. You can always move over to other Android devices where they do their own updates.
Anyway, we are in the same boat I am rocking a nexus 5X...
