    "almost"

So someone carrying a gun has helped in countless instances saving countless lives. But on the other hand, one almost killed someone.

Difference between police officers and members of the public in shooting situations is that officers are required to take action and actively seek solution to the threat to other people. Non officers only have to consider protecting themselves, and they must not actively go after bad guys. It is far easier, as it is easy to identify if someone is trying to shoot you, even with zero training.

This is why we have never seen friendly fire from CCW carriers.

Producing hydrogen is not a very efficient or emission free process, whichever way it is done. Either you use natural gas, which is not very sustainable, or you use electricity, with poor efficiency.

Mirrorlist from fedora.redhat.com that yum uses only has one mirror listed: http://download.fedoraproject.org/ . http://fedora.redhat.com/download/mirrors/ has no alternatives for fc5. Should wait a few days before trying 'yum update' again. Some updates are already available.

When in text mode installer, I go to package group details with F2, then select all packages, click OK, when I go again there, they are not selected. Therefore, it is not possible to install emacs initially, as emacs is not installed by default, at least in productivity / office profile.

Graphical installer cannot be used with flat panels, as the X server starts with vertical refresh rate over 85 Hz, and usually flat panels top below that. Only text mode installation is possible with flat panels.

Unbelieveable that the article thinks this is a small amount. Compared to other possible actions, this has a big effect.

Now if doubling the capacity creates 8% reduction, building 5 times as much would create 40% reduction.. What is the point in limiting discussion to just doubling?

  7. Simpletelecom on How Do You Make International Calls? · · Score: 1
I use http://www.simpletelecom.com/ for all my outgoing calls - also for local calls in Finland, because it is as cheap as the local operator and works well. At $0.017 to most of Europe (and USA) it really is a killer. Other countries cheap too. No monthly fee. Just deposit some money and configure your sip or iax connection. No bells or whistles, just outgoing calls and a simple user interface to list your calls and watch your balance. And with the current exchange rate of euro it is really cheap for Europeans.

We just talked a 25 minute call to Thailand. It would have cost around $50 with major Finnish operators, and $25 with some cheaper carriers, and $15 with local voip operator. Now I spent $3.

I have a setup where I have Asterisk configured to call out to Simpletelecom and accept calls from local voip carrier (for local phone number). Some numbers do not work through Simpletelecom, so I configure those outgoing calls to local operator.

  8. Go all digital if you can on Build Your Own Linux PVR · · Score: 1

It is a bit pricey to get DVB-T/S/C cards right now, especially the DVB-C digital cable cards, but if you are able to get digital TV, the VDR software has all the necessary features, and because there is no re-encoding of video stream, the reception quality is preserved. Program guide is streamed along with the programs. Almost only available in Europe though.

The writer has VDR in his links too, but this is it again: VDR. Slashdot article about it can be found in here. I think the software has evolved and the availability of DVB cards has improved a bit since then so that if you passed this option last time it might be worth it to check it out again.
