I've been reading slashdot for at least the last 5 years (and I know there's lots on here who have been reading longer) -- EVERY SINGLE YEAR there seems to be a post that says "Maybe is the year of linux"
If you're at a computer, depending if you need to be connected or not to the net... why not just remove your ethernet cable so the web ISN'T a distraction.
"The technology unravels almost as quickly as the plot. There are some good things about this movie, but the plot will drive nitpicking techheads and nerds nuts with its implausibility. "
The same thing could have probably been said about The Scorpion King.
Whereas
"If you need escapist entertainment from your hyper teched-up lives, this is the movie for you. If the Rock can survive tyrants, thieves, traitors, arrows, impalement, knives, spears, swords, sandstorms, fire, poison, snakes and killer ants, you can get through a boring day at work. "
Could have basically been said with a few different nouns about Panic Room.
If you're going to view movies as escapes from reality- view them that way. If you're going to view them all as true to life extravaganzas, then you've got the wrong idea.
I disagree that you say games are for kids. One of the reasons the Playstation and PS2 have done so well is they've targeted the key demograph of 18-25 year olds. The ones with money to spend and no house or kids to piss the money away on. The moeny isn't in the kids anymore, just look at how things like professional wrestling have changed.
let's think outside our little box for a second.

Review: Panic Room

· Score: 1
Maybe the movie makers didn't make it for the nitpicking geeks. Maybe they made it for the REAL WORLD.
Panic Room was wonderful. Escape your geeky ego for 2 hours and just be taken in by a movie. That's what movies are for - ESCAPE!
The Star Wars fans will never be pleased. Nothing will ever be as good as the first 3 (or even the first one) and they will stand by it and crucify everything lucas makes...yet they call themselves fans.
Nothing gets "Shut Down". You can't power on VMs, use vmotion, or DRS.

Milhouse: Oh! Oh! Oh! "Low battery?"
Mrs. Krabappel [sighs]: Whatever.
