I haven't read the message, cause its to damn long and I'm too damn lazy, but the only thing I could say is that I really don't miss Mick and BayWatch, and if globalism means its diffusion all around the world, well I prefer to look for another planet right now...
What DRI tries to do is to allow applications running on Xserver to 'bypass' the X protocol for doing their graphics operations directly, the reason why their code is so ugly and complicated.
Starting from a direct rendering 'server', like directFB, and then adding a transparent layer for network applications would probably be a much more efficient way to get the same behavior.
