You could actually buy the 8110 for at least a year, even before The Matrix came out. Maybe not in the US, but certainly in Europe.
If you are wanting pure "Matrix coolness factor" - i.e. don't care that the phone is really pretty crap - you might check out the 7110. The 8110 didn't actually have a spring-loaded number shield, however the 7110 does, along with WAP and Nokia's usual selection of games, ringtones, etc.
If it hasn't already been released in the US it soon will be, probably under a different (71xx) two-last-digits moniker.
Chuck is absolutely right about the fact that there are a lot of products that will be be released (either at all, or more likely for the Linux platform) because of this. Metrowerks has what is arguably the best cross-platform development toolset. Any large multideveloper project is going to benefit from a seamless, graphical development environment across disparate platforms. It is a real shame that management has made this decision; Metrowerks had a distinct advantage in the IDE market, and could have leveraged it significantly.
