Okay Anonymous, you've piqued my curiousity enough even though I know I shouldn't dignify this with a response. Why do you think that I am actually male? I've been assumed to be male but never actually been accused of being male but pretending otherwise.
I'm sorry to hear that people think I'm trolling. I actually feel quite passionately about this issue.
Speaking of the insidious and subtle nature of sexism, the popular Neal Stephenson quote from Snow Crash may apply to some of you:
"It was, of course, nothing more than sexism, the especially virulent type espoused by male techies who sincerely believe that they are too smart to be sexists."
I suppose before it could be said that in the past it was just the commenters who were this sexist, not necessarily the site (though one might argues the mods.) At this point, I think viewing the site at work would cross over into creating a hostile environment for me.
I would if I still read the site. This was pointed out to me by a (male) roommate as funny.
I'm just adding this to the long list of reasons I give when I explain why I don't read the site (some reasons having to do with intolerance, some not.) Considering the responses I've gotten in person when bringing up the intolerance issue, I am losing faith in the people who read this site.
I already see it as more of a con than a pro when trying to find sufficiently truly geeky guys to be with. I think it's time for the rest of my (mostly male geek) house to find a new roommate.
I'm glad to see that at least your awareness is raised. Looking at the current mods on the commentary though, I don't have high hopes for the rest of the crowd.
I probably would have not have had such a strong reaction to this had I not experienced it both at school and work.
Well you attracted me back... just to add another voice to the several great comments, both from those with accounts and those anonymous, that believe this "joke" is just sexism. Saying it's a joke and we should just take it as one is a form of bullying.

I guess it's true what they say.
