This used to be a part of IronPython and is now a separate project. They now support different interpreters like CPython instead of IronPython only. Together with AnkhSVN and Mono Tools this makes Visual Studio 2010 a pretty nice place to work in to be honest.
I think Microsoft is moving in the right direction with these kind of extensions. Please make more! (Preliminary Wish List: Bash/Ksh/Posix Shell script extension, Ruby extension, Dalvik/Android extension)
The "better" one. Frack. A dime a dozen in tech supprt. Sorry, dude, but the reason your career didn't advance is because you didn't have the people skills to climb the ladder.
Ahh, people skills. The fine art of "talking to the right people at the right time", also known as kissing ass in plain english. Some people are just not that much inclined to do so.
Also, I guess you've never worked at a large-ish techsupport department or company? If you are a highly skilled guy helping thousands of noob^h^h^h^h customers, management (ie. the guys you would unleash your "people skills" on) are going to do everything they can to keep you in place. That means no career moves. That means that after about a year or two, three it's time to move on. As the article states!
How many of us here have done tech support as a full time gig? I bet the show of hands is impressive. How many realized it was time to move on, not just from the job, but from the "customerz R teh st00pitz" attitude as well?
I think the article represents in no way a "customerz R teh st00pitz" attitude. The guy simply states that in about a 1000 calls, there are a lot of unreasonable and unfriendly people, and that this will get to you sooner or later. If it doesn't you're either a robot or BOFH. In the latter case, you really shouldn't be in techsupport.
No? Haven't figured that out yet? Enjoy your time in the middle.
Right, "people skill" yourself up to what? higher class? Jeez.
I usually don't post but this article is really too much.
In other news, firefighters KEEP fighting fires worldwide! Despite their work, fires seem to keep burning stuff all over the world! Shock!
News at 11! Ambulance personnel and hospital staff are fighting an uphill battle! patients keep coming in! Where does it end?
Seriously, as long as you have people using any mechanism (computer/car/whatever) there will be people who break it, people who benefit from breaking it and people who try their utmost to KEEP it from breaking.
I'm *really* looking forward to the followup article which will tell us all how to "fix" this. Mayhaps a rant on buffer overflows? the virtues of "safe" languages? sane input validation? sigh.
I think this is good news. I use FC4 and include Novell's mono repos. It's the only outside repo I use, all other stuff I build/hack/package myself. This means I won't have to use any repos besides Core and Extras, which rocks.
Maybe this will mean they'll also include Muine? My fave musicplayer, which happens to be a Mono app.
Who cares about them windows compat features anyway? There's enough coolness in Mono on itself to warrant its inclusion into FC5. More languages, more choices. Sounds great!
