That was a major factor in favor of the PS2. It is somewhat harder to really "get" today given that you can buy a good DVD player for under $50, but back in 2000 DVD players were over $200, so a $399 PS2 that can also play DVDs was easier to justify as a purchase than a console like the Dreamcast that cannot play DVD.

The US is probably the most "loved" country in the world too.

And I seriously doubt its by the same people.

My company did a market study and found out that we were the most named brand when people were asked what brand they would most avoid. We were also the most named brand when people were asked what brand they most wanted to buy. We are also the #1 brand in our industry and have been for a long time. Gee big surprises there!

    Same with USA.

The problem is that US gives people a good reason to hate it.

The United States should honor its treaties. There are consequences for the way our government acts, including the fact that we don't always honor our treaties.

    Some examples:
    1. We are the most hated country on earth.
    2. The citizens of the US in general have little respect for the law.
    3. Lots of terrorism from outside the US.
    4. Lots of terrorism from inside the US.

In general, these things are caused by our government being a bunch of liars and frustration with the fact we can't seem to elect anyone with integrity no matter which party we vote for.

Remember, however that the person who put up the page is getting something too. They are able to express their views on the public internet. I can choose to read the information they post - or not. I can choose to read all of it, or only a portion.

I can choose to read the content and not the ads.

I can also choose to download the content and not the ads.

If the author of the web page doesn't like it, they can go start their own private internet and develop their own protocol and their own web browser if they want.

This is the same reason why I don't have to watch the commercials on TV. The broadcaster is using the *public's* airwaves. I can choose to listen to some of what they broadcast, all of it, or none of it. The broadcaster has no right to tell the public what portions they must pay attention to, or when they must have their TV on and tuned to a particular channel, or when they can leave the room or not pay attention.

If it were up to me, I would take the analogy further and say that you have a right to listen to any part of the spectrum you wish on your property. Unfortunately, the government has chosen to limit your rights to do so with regards to frequencies used by cordless phone technology, police radios, cell phones, etc. My position would be that the owness is on the person who wants privacy to either use good encryption or else to use a phone with a cord.

There is another excellent example. Plane geometry used to be what we would today consider a science in the ancient world. There were views of geometry that were less refined than the modern way we think about geometry. Evetually, these were refined to the point where plane geomtry ceased to be a science because there was nothing left unexplained.

At that point, it stops being a scientific theory and just becomes a tool. We no longer perform experiments to validate things like the Pythagorean theorem or how to compute the area of a circle whereas in ancient times, when it was a science, people did.
