  1. Re:jQuery, dojo, prototype, ExtJS, ... oh my on Learning Ext JS · · Score: 1

I have created quite a few frontends in Extjs in the past few years. It's a fabulous tooklit, totally extendable. For me, however, there's a large missing piece to this puzzle which is an interface designer much like Qt's Designer or Apple's Interface Builder. Having the ability to get instantaneous feedback while laying out and tweaking things is essential. The Cappuccino guys are supposed to have something this year, which is great. Apple's improved the usefulness of Dashcode on SL with bindings feature, but the IDE itself is still too unstable for real development IMHO. If Apple could wrap-up existing bugs related to code generation in Dashcode and make the thing bulletproof like IB, I'd be a happy clam â" even with a limited (as shipped) Parts library.

  2. Re:I'm confused on The Unauthorized State-Owned Chinese Disneyland · · Score: 1

I definitely think there is a substantive issue here. People will always copy each other. It seems that's the nature of creation. I feel that we will always butt heads with each other until law takes into account dependent relationship. This being that no ne is alone, no idea is original, something does not come from nothing. If something, let's say Goofy, came from nothing then everything comes from everything because any cause can be appropriated to any effect, ie the Buddhist consequence of excess. I wonder what would happen if we stopped protecting this non-existent idea of ownership. Free Goofy!

  3. Happiness, Logically on The Science Of Happiness · · Score: 2, Insightful

If you search for happiness in the external world, you'll never find it. Because, logically, happiness comes from the mind itself. If you consider the rich, the famous, and even, the successful, they aren't necessarily happy because happiness doesn't depend on external things. I think if more people realized this truly, there would be less focus on materialism, and *more* peace in the world. As far as finding happiness through drugs... the brain is not the mind. It's related to the mind and it *can* affect the mind. How we feel is determined by what we believe in, not by our current predicament.

  4. My hated favorite on 29 Vector Drawing Programs · · Score: 1

Surprised that no one mentioned Auto-Illustrator. This one-won honorable mention at a Prix Ars Electonica. It's a vector-based app that does away with the normal method operation (crossing t's and dotting i's), and focuses on capturing expressiveness of gesture and compound user actions.

Too bad it's slower than dialup, these days. Not to mention that it cost 100+. I should have spent my money on chewing gum, considering 1.2 was probably the last update.

NB: the demo/serialization scheme on Auto-Illustrator is very unique. As time flounders forward past the demo date, AI develops more and more of an artistic liscence on your open docs.
