The thing that the RIAA and MPAA just don't understand about movie and music swapping is, the popularity of P2P file swapping sites and rampant piracy is a direct response by consumers to the excessive cost of music and videos. $15 to $35 for what is essentially a piece of plastic? No wonder people are seeking free alternatives!
Basic economics dictate that if the media industries are losing customers in droves, they need to lower their price and/or produce a better product. These rules apply to every business. Take prostitution for instance. One day I was walking down 5th street, minding my own business, when a hooker walked up to me and said "blow you for $30." "No thanks," I replied and kept on walking. She whistled and soon three huge men burst out of the building next to us and tackled me to the ground. One held me down, one beat me about the head and arms and one of them pulled down my pants and started inserting hot peppers into me from behind. The prostitute, meanwhile, repeatedly kicked me in my nuts until they felt like swollen bowling balls. After who knows how many scorching hot jalapenos were shoved into my anus, the guy started pumping me in the butt. I blacked out when one of them urinated on my face. Long story short, I got an ass full of man-cheese, a face full of pee and a sore nut sack. Indeed, it was an interesting lesson in United States' free-market economics.
So don't let the media industry trample on your rights. As long as free alternatives exist to keep big media in check, consumers will have a tool on their side to balance market forces.
Thank you.
We've heard a lot of talk lately about freedom of speech and expression, and how it relates to the Internet. Some say you should be able to say whatever you want on the Internet, without the U.S. government's permission. Although this is an interesting idea, it's not going to happen--and I'll tell you why: You have no rights online!
That's right, kids. No matter how much you would like to shout "virus" in a crowded chat room, there is nothing that gives you the right to do it! Examine, if you will, the two most important law documents in the world: The U.S. Constitutuion and the Bible. Neither of these documents even _mention_ the Internet. Some might argue that these texts were written long before anyone even knew of the Internet. True, but they were written by God Almighty, Who, of course, knew in advance that the Internet and other forms of electronic devilry would come to corrupt mankind.
The concept that your rights to free speech, press and religion, apply online is an outrageous liberal myth, perpetuated by communist groups like the EFF and ACLU, which are funded by underground criminal hacker groups. By stealing billions of dollars in movies, music and software, all the while hiding behind the fantasy that they are supported by the Constitution, these pirates deprive media and software executives of the five or six Cadillacs they rightly deserve.
I propose that we lobby Congress to shut down the Internet altogether. Most of what takes place online is illegal, anyway (software/media piracy and pornography). Then tracking down criminals would be a simple matter of following telephone and cable lines, and the concept of "online rights" would be exposed as what it really is: a laughable fantasy.
There is a poison that is affecting this great land, and that poison has a name: Linux.
You may have heard of this dangerous hacker's program. Developed by the Soviets during the Cold War, Linux is a "UNIX-like operating system." In layman's terms, this means it is computer software that allows criminals to perform unauthorized (and illegal) tasks with their computers. What may shock you, however, is that this program has begun to slowly make its way through our nation's computer networks, and now threatens the economy, the stock market, and the great corporations that founded our country and keep it running.
Linux, and other hacking tools with such strange names as "emacs," "PHP" (an obvious drug reference) and "gcc," have been used by thousands of foreigners and terrorists to undermine the American way of life. Okay, I realize you might be skeptical. How, you ask, could the United States, the world's peace-keeping police force, allow such harmful programs to enter our great country? Folks, I wish this was just an alarmist rant. But the threat to capitalism is real. Although the former Iron Curtain is long gone, its final creation is coming to bear on our own soil, in our own backyards.
Yes, friends, leftist groups and individuals, although mostly confined to covert computer hideouts called "chat rooms," are actively spreading Linux into corporations and other organizations as you read this. Why would any American do such a thing? We may never know. Perhaps these misguided individuals have been shunned by legitimate software development firms like Microsoft and America Online. These poor souls, many of whom are but children, have sadly devoted themselves to a life of crime, by secretly learning programming techniques such as "debugging" and "optimizing," techniques previously reserved for patriotic, God-fearing professional engineers like Bill Gates.
The time to act is now! As proud citizens and voters, we owe it to our children to stand up to this new "red scourge" and voice our concerns to our elected representatives. It is a sad testament to our country's deteriorating moral fiber that, despite the efforts of righteous Christian organizations such as the RIAA and the MPAA, the use and possession of Linux is still legal. Frightening, yes, but through faith and determination, we shall drive these Linux terrorists from our holy American soil.
As long as the RIAA continues to treat music like product instead of art, and bands as corporate chess pieces instead of artists, nothing will change. Some fans will rebel, some will complain, but most will just keep taking it up the ass.
Thank you.
