Buy the largest light bucket that you can afford and a set of good eyepieces to begin with. After you have sat in the cold looking at the universe for a while and have felt comfortable with it then put some cash into the rest of the goodies. Most wind up storing their equipment in a closet and wonder why they spent that much on those, "toys", but it you get bit then you will get used to the cold nights under the stars.
Fixed it. Had to tweak the modem's initialization scripts and the account login scripts, now am online with SuSE 9.1 just fine. The sound can be fixed with a download from creative's opensource web site.
Now that I have completed the online update everything is working much better than expected for an ordinary, not geek, user such as I am...
My Zoom external serial modem won't work in 9.1, did in 9.0
My Audigy Platinum Sound card is silent in 9.1, worked fine in 9.0, even though it configures correctly. Since I cannot connect to the patch site to get the patches, it sits there as a pile of crap on my HD waiting to be deleted...soon. Phone help is a joke as well as online help. If I were a Linux geek it would be a nice puzzle to muck with for hours on end, but my two days of frustration are enough for me...
I use my 3.5 floppy drive to backup ongoing text documents that are in the process of re-writes and editing. That way if the HD dies I will not have lost hundreds of hours of work.
Take a vacation and spend the time volunteering in a homeless shelter and then go back to work and see how you feel.

A fish has bones but a shark has only cartilege. A shark is a totally different species, a very ancient one.

Work?...Work?...I don't do no stinking work!
Eventually the Earth will be totally clear cut and paved. After that we will move into the universee and clear cut and pave any planet that we can.

A plugged in electric clock caused the monitor to flicker. When I moved it away that stopped it.
