One of my favourite SciFi series is by David Zindell titled "A Requiem for Homo Sapiens". There are 4 books starting with Neverness, The Broken God, The Wild and War in Heaven.
Seekers of the Ineffable Flame
can try this link.
Has some very interesting concepts that appeal to geeks, metaphysicians and people who just like a good story.
I just had to reply to this.
1) I am on 24 x 7 call every third week, so I only keep the mobile phone in our room when I am on call.
2) Yes my house is full of computers, media centres, cables, etc... In the bedroom though, we only have the TV,DVD,Video.....
3) Why is it assumed that all readers are male. I am female, over 40, married with children and a geek. So yes there is diversity in this world...
We just went through the whole research thing looking for a networked Home Media Centre.
In the end we found that the best thing we could do for extending our dollars and flexibility (in Australia at least) was to buy an XBox and utilise the brilliant GPL software available, namely XBox Media Player and Relax X Streamer.
We have only just started setting up and playing, but so far it is excellent and best of all we are in control.
As the budget permits, wireless can be added and many other features.
Certainly worth a look for others
